Gigabit, let's go!

If you want a gigabit internet package for your home, this is one of the best places to start. Among the Docsis 3.1 modems on the market that can operate at these speeds, this model wins the prize when it comes to stability, speed, latency, and hardware. We've run it without a single reboot since our first test of the modem - it's been running for 2 months now (so far). Our speeds were consistent throughout this window with no dropout (tap on the virtual tree) or other red flags. As mentioned…

Docsis 3.1 latest texhnology pros and cons here.

The product arrived in very nice packaging. Glossy splitbody packaging that is well shaped to protect the product and is naturally attractive. After separating and opening both halves they say it looks identical to my previous model but it is not. On closer inspection, it is the new version of Docsis 3.1, which is in high demand on the Internet. First you will notice two gigabit ports. Herein lies the downside, and so does every other branded D-3.1 modem on the market with multiple E-Net ports.

Pros
  • Hard wearing finish
Cons
  • Only available in white

Annoying freezes - networking products

My ISP is Xfinity (Comcast). Slow enough 100Mbps. Don't stress the SB8200. It can work fine for a few hours and then "stand still" for some reason. Clearing takes about 45 seconds, after which normal operation resumes. I don't have to drop it or pull the power cord. However, very annoying for a modern product. On the Product Information web interface page, I'm running hardware version 6, software version SB8200.0200.174F.311915.NSH.RT.NA (believe it or not!). Can't programmers come up with…

Pros
  • 1 year trial
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

I bought an Arris SB8200 for Xfinity gigabit internet service as they have a two year contract for the same price as the 400Mbps plan ($69.99). So, to save almost $15 a month, I decided to buy my own modem to replace my aging Motorola (Arris) SB6141. My SB6141 gave me 259 Mbps downstream and 35 Mbps downstream compared to my previous plan of 400 Mbps upstream and 35 Mbps downstream, which is great for an 8x4 Docsis 3.0 cable modem. So since Arris bought out Motorola's cable modem division I…
