Tolerates a lot of abuse

I use this book for mixed media journaling. I have subjected this book to numerous abuses and the paper has withstood both subtle artistic effects and extreme mixed media decoupage. The spine of a book is under a lot of pressure from the thick layers I've added and it's still not broken. Very impressive for this price range. Average quality paper for watercolor (not student and not terrible, but not top art class). I have tried several watercolor effects on this type of paper with great success

The paper absorbs water too quickly and the binding is strange

I chose Arteza watercolor books and I have to say I wasn't thrilled. When I first started drawing with paper I had high hopes but there are some problems I would like to solve. First, paper binding is very inconvenient. It is clear that only one side is intended for watercolor, but the pages are abruptly turned. I'm a little confused as to how this was created from the start. The other (most important) problem is that the paper soaks up water very quickly and doesn't give time to rise, one of…

This is a great sketchbook if you don't need to erase

I was really looking forward to this album because I wanted to be able to just experiment and not take it too seriously. The two paper textures are very good and the watercolor works great on the textured side. But the smooth paper side is a whole different story. I used the smooth paper side to just do some paper sketches and didn't use watercolors on it. When I went to erase a light pencil mark, my eraser (Lyra or low-techno) that I use all the time ate the paper so badly that the surface of…

not very good quality

Short list of advantages: aesthetically pleasing, with a nice linen cover, elastic closure and red marker tape. Outwardly, it resembles the more expensive Handbook watercolors. The sides lie flat and there is a small pocket on the back. Paper takes fountain pen ink perfectly. Main Cons: This paper is terrible for aquatic environments. I've used everything from Arches paper to kraft brown watercolor sketch bags, and these Arteza sketchbooks are as good as grocery bags. The front and back of the…

You get what you pay for.

The quality of these sketchbooks correlates with the price you pay for them. I don't like them for watercolor because for some reason the paper shows through the paint with weird specks. I prefer to use gouache in this album as the paper doesn't show through as much with opaque media. I've had these albums for about a year now and I haven't even checked through one of them yet because I'm on the lookout for others. Sketchbooks far more often than I reach for them. I really don't recommend this…
