Description of Attwood 1733-4 Blower Bilge 3-inch Water Resistant, White

Provides outstanding ventilation airflow for areas such as engine compartments, galleys, bilges, and heads. Features a patented, in-line design and the 5-blade fan maximizes airflow and efficiency. The blade sweep and pitch are engineered for a high lift coefficient, resulting in increased airflow speed for optimized ventilation. System airflow exceeds older-style in-line blowers by as much as 25 percent. Up to four times more efficient than competitive blowers as it draws up to 40 percent fewer amps. Marine ignition protected and has built-in mounting feet for easy vertical or horizontal installation. Do not operate in area of high heat over 160o F (71o C).

Works great in a swamp cooler!

This thing puts out a TON of air. I used it to build a swamp cooler for my plane. Combined with a sealed 12 volt Power Sonic battery and switch, I had a great cooling system.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Expensive

Not what I expected and the fan is too loud.

Only works with relay or on/off switch. I tried disconnecting it from the remote signal from my aftermarket main unit and it created a ground loop and disabled everything but the fan. Also, the fan was louder than expected when turned on, so loud I couldn't hear anything but the super loud fan.

Pros
  • Best in class
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Vent Tube Replacement Plan

Installing the blower wasn't my problem, it was an old plastic vent tube that self-destructed on me. My boat had a slow leak that sometimes flooded the hold, once I even turned on the blower until I realized it was flooding. It still works, but makes an unusual noise, so a new replacement is not long in coming :-/

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Useless features

Great little fan, buy it with confidence!

I wasn't quite sure about this purchase. I went with other reviews and took a chance on this one. I use it for an ice box air conditioner fan motor and it works great. The small fan blows a lot of air, but makes some noise during operation. the noise is really not bad. I've run it for many hours now and the fan runs like new. Now I can say that I highly recommend it.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Very expensive

Lasts about a year. on Blowers

Bought a third one today and installed a second one as a backup. The first lasted just under a year in dry conditions when running at less than full speed. At full speed they are very noisy as mentioned in other reviews. I run mine through a PWM controller set at around 20% mostly for the noise. There is a slight vibration so I put it on rubber mounts. My backup went in a different direction than the original when the wiring was the same.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Faulty

Small powerful motor

Finding a small diameter motor that was proven to move air with an impeller was a challenge. Many early Ferrari fan motors are only slightly larger. Rather than rewinding the original Spahl fan motor, I simply modified it to fit INSIDE the original motor housing. Rewinding the original motor can cost as much as $500. The price, value and performance of this engine outweighs it when used as an economical and powerful piece of equipment. I made sure to implement ventilation as well, using airflow

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • weak

Fan motor was wired backwards

EXACT replacement for my 2003 wakeboard boat bilge fan, includes color coded wires. I installed the fan and before reconnecting the top hose to the fan that exhausts gas vapors overboard, I checked the fan for working order. Worked great except the motor ran in reverse. The fan blew into the engine compartment and sucked air out. Swapped the color coded wires on the fan and it worked as intended, sucking air out of the bilge. The Attwood factory was contacted and they confirmed that the fan was
