Great scanner for the money!

Good manufacturer for the price - has all the features I need and then some. Along with a bit of online research, using this scanner's live data option, I was able to determine that the check engine light and specific code was related to a loose exhaust pipe on the manifold, allowing excess air to enter the system and blow off the cats. The cats themselves are usually suspected, but in fact in this case they worked as they should. Tightened the bolts, cleared the code and now it's driven over a

Reliable and durable Basic OBD-II scanner Under $70

Purchased on 08/07/2013 and wrote this review on 06/09/2018. Great product and easy to use for domestic, Japanese and German vehicles. I use this reader for over 150 vehicles personally and not in a shop. Easily update the scanner database with Autel update client software from a Windows desktop or laptop (Win7 Pro 64bit and Win10 Ent 64bit). Durable thick rubber body and no trouble with the scanner after repeatedly dropped. Heavy-duty connection cables and protected connectors. Recommended MIL

Pros
  • Rugged construction
Cons
  • Expensive

I am very satisfied with this scanner. Works exactly as you would expect. I have read the manual which contains a lot of background information about the ODBII system as well as how to use this device. The color LCD display is fantastic (bright, easy to read, good resolution). The device feels solid in hand (doesn't feel cheap) and I like the rubber bumper that protects the device from accidental drops. I think this is a great value compared to what you might find at Harbor Freight or Home…

The item is considered "OBSOLETE " by Autel!

Please note that this product is considered obsolete by the manufacturer and you cannot register it or download updates. I did some research on the manufacturer's website forum and found that the item was out of date and because it was out of date I was unable to register the item and receive software updates! They appear to be downloaded from the older products section, but the software supplied by the manufacturer in the box you install on your computer is for Windows Vista and when you try…

No support for updates from Autel

I bought the Autel AL519 five years ago and am very impressed with its functionality for a budget scanner. Since I believe that an update is not critical for these cheap generic OBD scanners, I didn't think of updating them until recently. I've tried connecting it from the CD that came with the tool, through the Autel website, and through packs from other Revain buyers. For one reason or another, none of them worked. Since the Autel AL519 is identical to Harbor Freight's Cen-Tech 60694 scanner…

Much better than expected!

I've used this on 6 different cars in a week and can't complain. The display is bright and clear, the controls are self-explanatory if you've used the scanner before, and the quality is immediately apparent when you open the case. I would say the money was well spent, as I have wished for for a long time. Of the 6 cars I've used this with, all codes have been found (much more than expected) and easily fixed before being cleared. I read the manual before using it, in case you're interested. It…

Reads Codes on our '14MB G550 and '15 Honda Fit (Lexus too!)

Just what I need to read codes from our '14MB G550 and '15 Honda Fit. Tested and the tool contacted these two vehicles. I haven't had any issues, but I made this purchase to diagnose my cousin's 10 year old Lexus RX350. He found the error code and interpreted the fix. Replaced O2 sensor, cleared code and everything was back to normal. This Autel 519 costs $65. The replacement part (Denso 234-4509 oxygen sensor) was $72. My cousin bought the part and shared the cost of the scanner. He saved $340
