A good thing. Amano shrimp love it

Boiled for a few minutes to get some age, dirt and debris removed, tossed in my aquarium and sunk to the bottom an hour later and my amano shrimp weren't gone

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Doubtful

My catfish loves cholla

Arrived on time as advertised. After a little over 24 hours of soaking, it sank to the bottom of the aquarium. My Pleco loves it. It is beautiful and matches the decor and is also useful.

Pros
  • Permanent test results
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Aquarium? Just not

I boiled it several times to get rid of impurities and tannins, but the water in the tank went bad and started killing all my fish. Don't worry if you want this in an aquarium. 30 years of experience with tanks, never tried it - lesson learned.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Be careful when using hermit crabs

This product is fine. My hermit crabs love it and use it to climb. I have cooked cholla in dechlorinated water with a salt solution. After about a week I noticed mold growing on it. I washed it, boiled it again and after a week the mold started growing again. I wanted to take a risk and hurt my hermits, so I ended up throwing it away. This may not be suitable for tanks that require more moisture than heat.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

Exactly what I was looking for

Perfect size for a 10 gallon aquarium. As long as you cook them to hell they will be great in your aquarium. Seriously, cook them a lot. I boiled them for several hours over a couple of days until the water looked like light-colored tea. The first water pots were very dark, so you definitely shouldn't just throw them in your tank. Soaking in water didn't pull out as much as boiling and it still makes the water a little yellowish, but at least my pH is stable. I've only used two so far to see…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Almost never

WARNING: Ammonia Splatter

To make a long story short, this Holya caused an ammonia squirt in my aquarium. I can confirm this was caused by a tree and not a random cycle as I soaked the cholla separately in a bucket first and was able to test the water in that bucket: it had over 2ppm ammonia. I have no idea why this happened as cholla was always fine before, but buyers using it for aquariums are strongly advised to boil, soak and test the water before using it in an aquarium. If I hadn't soaked myself first or been a…
