This fixed lanyard is made from a beautiful piece of wood. My gripe is that the skin is so slick (even after trying to roughen it up with a wire brush) that the green compound doesn't penetrate the pores, just forms a waxy layer that floats on the surface. I would have to buy a piece of leather for about $18, some glue, say $5 as wood, another $5 as a jewelry joint, $10 as time to make it, say my time is worth $20 an hour. Excellent product at a good price. I was a bit skeptical at first because of the leather's strange black tanning. However, the leather is of good quality and I have had no problems with it. Even when the sling is in use, it still blackens with steel; So perhaps the color was chosen to reduce the psychological impact as the line darkens after use. Definitely recommend. It's a solid piece of wood with subtle leather on either side. I paid about $28 after tax for this sling and it was advertised on every page as an 8x3 inch leather sling. Good sling. The only thing I had was smooth black leather on both sides. It seems that some people have a smooth side and a softer side, as do many other lines. I bought this to replace my hanging strap in Chicago with something I could just sit on my countertop. The idea is great and the leather is fine, but the problem is the wooden spatula.
