Sent used, with dull blade.

The box was broken and already opened. The used mandolin was simply thrown into the box with no packaging. I've tried slicing apples with it, it doesn't work. It should cut like butter. It is a used blunt mandolin that was sent to me. Dissatisfied.

As a former cooking teacher who sold Benriner slicers to his students.

I have sold over 500 in my career. This product cannot be compared to the original. The blades are not sharp, the straw blade cannot cut potatoes or carrots, cause jam before going through the blades, making it extremely dangerous to use! The plate rose above the level of the cutting blade at rest and also opened fully at a 90 degree angle, allowing for safe cleaning. No longer rises or opens. I am very disappointed and would definitely not recommend it!

  • Ideal for outdoor activities

Well built but small mandolin

Handling this instrument requires skill, practice, strength and a lot of courage. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. He'll cut off your finger if you're not careful. Be careful but don't be shy. I think julienne blades are useless for anything but beets and the like, they clog and cripple onions. Stick to a straight blade. It makes great thin slices. It would be better if it was about an inch wider to accommodate a larger bow. Using this will result in more waste (about 1/2 inch of all cuts being…

The best product for crushing daikon!

I have been looking for a product that can be used to chop up radishes to eat with sashimi for years if not decades. This is the best. Once you get used to how to pitch and set it up, it just sings. It's easy and fast. It makes a fantastic grated radish to eat with sashimi. He's from Japan and I think that's why he's doing this job so well. It seems that this product is intended to be sold in both Japan and the US, as the label and design on the box are written in both Japanese and English. In…

BEWARE! Replacement blades are not available for this model!

I just love this mandolin. Easy to use and clean too. If you're looking for a replacement flat blade for this device, you'll need to find one that has holes on each side, or find someone who can drill them for you. The blade is smaller than the #95 Super Benriner and #120 Jumbo Benriner but looks the same. Unfortunately, Amazon does not currently offer replacement blades for this particular model. UPDATED ON MY ORIGINAL REVIEW --- I've done extensive research and the manufacturer no longer…

Too much kickback in the platform

I am very surprised at how much kickback there is in this product. As you can see in the video, when you click on the platform, the platform moves a little. And the worst thing is that both sides of the platform don't move the same amount. What you get are inconsistent cuts and difficult to dial in depth. Also, the stoppers on the underside don't hold the countertop like you would hope. This creates the possibility of slipping. Finally, the food holder is not of high quality as mentioned in…

This is the one to buy.

I did a lot of research before purchasing Benriner's #64 Japanese Food Slicer. I also watched a lot of YouTube videos. I'm glad I bought the regular "narrow" because it cuts evenly. If it were wider, like my previous cheap mandolin, there would be too much "kickback" in the middle. There is a knob on the bottom to adjust the thickness of the slice. A big consideration for me was "easy to clean" and this one is very easy to clean unlike my cheap one. No leftovers stay stuck forever. Rough. BUY…

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other alternatives

Probably the best mandolin style slicer made at any price point.

There was another slicer not unlike this one. I paid seven dollars for it at a pottery shed in Mobile, Al, 30 years ago. The thought was just great. He finally broke down. And I just found out it wasn't that great when I got this one to replace it. From time to time you come across something like Knipex pliers that you know can't get any better than what you already have. This large Benrinner Slicer is one of them. Cannot be upgraded. It is already here. There is nothing better. This one will…
