never melted. awful

I bought hot, recommended a burner for them and they didn't even start to melt. My brother Teague ended up welding the pieces together.

Happens in an emergency

Stronger than mild steel, melts slower than brass; ideal for joining dissimilar metals such as MS, SS and brass. I started using these rods 40 years ago when nothing else worked.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Inaccurate product information

Incorrect product description on Revain. The Revain site says the operating temp is 1250-1750, but the box says 1680-1700F and 915-926C. Not suitable if you require an operating temperature anywhere in the 1250-1689F range

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Does not fit all

Excellent for soldering stainless steel.

This is great for soldering 1/8 inch stainless steel. Typically, stainless steel is difficult to weld unless you have a TIG welder. I have used these rods for brazing stainless steel with an acetylene torch. No problem, except you'll have to sand off the flux afterwards. The color of the solder doesn't match the color of the stainless steel, but that didn't bother me.

Pros
  • Hands Free
Cons

Bad flux or high temperature metals - very difficult to use

I don't know what the problem is, but those nickel silver rods really didn't work that well. Harder than the bronze or other cupronickel rods I ended up using. I've tried welding brass chain links together, but these bars didn't seem to flow at temperatures below the melting point of brass. Nickel silver must melt at a much lower temperature than brass.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • ---

The MAPP Gas Torch flame is hot enough to work with these wands. However, this only applies if you are working with thin steel. I could successfully braze sheet metal, but when trying to braze light gauge steel to heavier gauge steel, the torch could not provide enough heat for the heavier gauge steel. For heavier materials I had to resort to oxygen/acetylene.

Cons
  • Nothing Here

Disappointed Welding and Soldering Product

I may have made a mistake when ordering because I looked at many similar items and compared them. But I have soldering rods (brass) for my oxy-acetylene gear and they were basically the same. I wanted silver solder for difficult firearm soldering but it wasn't what they advertised! I wasn't expecting all silver and for the price I should have known better but apart from the flux coating the handle was the color of brass and nothing like silver.

Pros
  • Absolute Legend
Cons
  • High Price

Read before you buy

Here I give an honest review. If you don't have a gas burner, buy something else. Just to test the product I used the Burnzomatic Map torch and 20 minutes after pouring the torch didn't get 3/8 hot enough to melt the stick. You will not be successful without a two-component torch. Even using an oxygen lamp, I had to paint both materials bright red and use a flame to melt the rod. The soldering broke so I bought a s13 and did my job.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure

I believe an Oxygen/Propane or Acetylene torch is essential for proper use of these wands. Fluxes are incredibly difficult to remove after welding, but the versatility and quality of this product justifies five stars. The product is very suitable for connecting many different metals. Tensile strength and ductility are good. I'm a bit picky, it doesn't tin as well as I'd like, but hence the ability to fuse loose joints, which is a huge plus for me when welding less than perfect objects. It takes

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Unreliable
