I have replaced the front and rear shock absorbers on my camper van with Bilstein shock absorbers. BIG DRIVING DIFFERENCE WORTH $$. Time will tell how they hold up but I would recommend them!
I replaced the stock shock absorbers on my F-450 Class C RV with these. I'm a lucky tourist. The ride is less harsh, but the steering and handling are better. It won't turn your truck or camper into a Ferrari, but it will improve ride and handling. Installation can be performed by any shade tree mechanic.
Installed these on my 2005 E-450 Van with 40,000 miles. Installation wasn't too bad, just a few touches, but it can easily be done in half a day if you're prone to turning wrenches. Now let's get to the good part. Ride quality and handling compared to standard shocks are phenomenal! These shocks combined with the Ingalls Engineering 59400 Alignment Caster/Camber Bushing and Alignment made the RV drivetrain how it should have been run from the factory. I will not hesitate to buy again.
I put her on a 31 foot 2001 Class C with 55,000 miles. They feel a bit too stiff for this RV to be comfortable on a small bump road. If I load the RV with heavy water, fuel and tow, then sure it could be smoother. It's a compromise you make to just be better at dealing with hits. Instead of these "HD shock absorbers" a reinforced Hellwig antisway handlebar with Bilstien "comfort absorbers" seems to be the best option. It could be the best of both worlds. But if you're just replacing the shocksβ¦
Replaced front and rear shock absorbers on an E450 Class C. I checked the Bilstein website before purchasing. Note that when ordering Class C shock absorbers are specified for short and long wheelbase vans/Class C for the E450. Make sure you order the correct damper for your wheelbase. Plus, changing shocks on any E450 whose front lower mounts are welded to the body is no walk in the park. The driver's side is the worst. My husband modified some of the tools to get the job done. I also had toβ¦
shock absorbers work as they should. If I had to replace them again I would choose the "Standard" damper over the "HD". The HD damper is too stiff for a comfortable ride. Installed on e350 with Advanced Ambulance Pack. UPDATE 2019 They still seem to be driving a little rough. but I am complaining that the rubber bushings on all 4 shocks are split and cracked. Not very happy that the Bilstein rubber mounts didn't even last 2 years. I have installed various brands of shock absorbers over theβ¦
