Cheap but cool: Blitzen

Okay, I'm not a professional photographer, but I take a lot of photos for my blog, my Etsy shop, my Facebook. I HATE those ugly flash photos. My friend asked me to photograph her daughter's wedding as she had no money. I knew I had to have lightning in the restaurant. I did a little research and found that instead of shooting the flash directly at the subject, you can bounce the flash off the ceiling to create light without creating a harsh effect. So I found this super cheap swivel flash, put…

Inexpensive flash: Schuhblitz

Let's face it, photography is an expensive hobby. And while I agree that more money usually gets you better products, for relatively new players like me, spending $200 on a flash right at the gate is a bit much. I was looking for a cheap but good quality flash. which I found with Bower SFD728C. It is ETTL compatible with my Canon XTi so learning to use the shoe flash is as easy as using the built in flash. The reference number is also relatively high (I can't remember the exact number) and I…

Bower 728C Flash for Canon SX20IS Camera

I use this flash on my Canon SX20-IS camera. It seems that this bower flash can only work in automatic mode. (Brightness level or anything else cannot be adjusted via camera OSD). It's bright, flashes when alarmed, and charges quickly with NiMH rechargeable batteries. I saw some bad reviews because some people had trouble installing the batteries. if done right. First the two front batteries are connected, then the two rear ones. The photos I took turned out well. Horizontal and vertical…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

It's also worse for 60 €

What should others know? Canon always releases a new flash, and the previous top flash cost a few hundred dollars. For $60, you're throwing away a lot less money, even if you have to throw it away. Let's put it this way: if you have a Cannon Rebel XSi that you use a few times a year, then it has all the features you need for more than just dinners and shows. What aspects of this article do you like or dislike? Selling this pup for 10% of the price of the Canon 600ex-rt required several…

The cheapest Canon TTL autofocus you will find anywhere.

As other reviewers have pointed out, it's not up to Canon's $200 equivalent and has a plastic protector. But if you take it out to photograph the dog and grandkids at home, it should do the job just fine. 99% of the time I use it to deflect light from the ceiling to bring more natural light into my home. It also seems to have a decent range, so I'm looking forward to trying it out at my next wedding where the lights are dimmed and you can't get that close to the happy couple. If you're a…

Entry-level Canon Speedlight

This economical Bower SFD728C Speedlight has been specifically designed for use with Canon TTL digital SLR cameras and that is key to its appeal. It has no built-in knobs or buttons for manual adjustment. In fact, it is an excellent low-cost alternative to Canon's more powerful Speedlites. Reverse-engineering some of the most fundamental functions of Canon's external Speedlite flash, compatible Canon cameras adjust this Bower unit's flash intensity, autofocus beam, etc., as well as in-camera…

Okay, you get what you pay for

I would rate this flash as ok. This flash is a replacement for a cheaper item I purchased that didn't work with my camera. Another flash wasn't detected at all and didn't flash, so I had to buy something cheaper. I own a Canon Rebel XS/1000d, I shoot with wall lenses from SLR film cameras (28mm-80mm) and save fifty bucks. I'm just an amateur photographer who wants to take great pictures of my kids. The flash is not very strong (especially after I had another flash). This flash has an on/off…
