I definitely recommend buying, I didnt notice any disadvantages.

I accidentally bought it for the 5D Mark II and do not part with it! Many people write that the lens is neither this nor that, not 35 mm and not 50 mm. In principle, they sell because of this, but on the contrary, it seemed to me that the distance was convenient. I bought from such a person for 2500 in a new condition with a filter, a box and a guarantee, a freebie in general! Shot at both 50mm and 35mm. 50mm on full seemed too far for street shooting, reporting. And 35mm is too wide. And…

Pros
  • 1- Cheap price 2- Workmanship 3- Image quality 4- Size, weight 5- Focusing speed, tenacity 6-2.8 is also aperture for me 7- Very nice bokeh 8- I have a sharp open
Cons
  • For such a price, a dreamy lens in general!

The product is of good quality, there is only one minor defect.

Photos are quite contrasting and very clear. There is a nuance in the video - it makes a little noise when focusing (on the video it is slightly noticeable only if the sound is turned up to the maximum) and the focusing itself is quite smooth, that is, not for fast moving objects. I took it for Canon EOS 650d - in general, they feel great together :) I managed to "snatch" at a price that was still adequate for him - 5600 (at the beginning of December).

Pros
  • Compactness, luminosity, price
Cons
  • sooo "thoughtful" focusing during video shooting, but not very critical and can be presented as a "trick" if you learn how to use it :)

A great option for this money, I definitely recommend it!

I thought for a long time whether to buy this lens in addition to my EF 50 / 1.4 USM (I shoot on EOS 6D). Finally, I decided, because the gain in length by 2 times is relevant, for example, when skiing. As expected, the image quality of 40 mm is completely similar to the quality of fifty dollars on the corresponding apertures. That is, very high, even at F / 2.8. The lens is small, the camera fits even in small bags designed for large soap dishes. Focusing is quite fast, although ring-USM is…

Pros
  • Weight, price, image quality, excellent macro capabilities with rings.
Cons
  • Indistinct FR for crop, inconvenient manual focus.

The purchase brought only positive emotions.

For a year and a half I photographed only with Nikons. A few months ago I decided to try and canon. I have only one Canon DSLR so far and it is quite old - Canon 400D. I have a broken whale lens for it, 55-250 (2 pieces), 50 1.8. Foreword in order to make it clear that I am not a professional and not a canonist, I'm just a photography enthusiast. Now about the lens. He's great! This is the main thing you need to know if you are planning to buy it. It is cheap - only 50 1.8 is cheaper. He is…

Pros
  • 1. Price. Canon's second cheapest fix. 2. Size - the smallest autofocus lens I know for DSLRs. 3. Aperture. Yes, 2.8 is not 1.4, but still better than in dark zooms. 4. The quality of the case. 5. The quality of the resulting picture. 6. Focusing speed. 7. Suitable for full frame cameras.
Cons
  • Probably not for this price. Inconvenient focal length or low aperture - these are not glass flaws, but features. But this lens has no objective disadvantages :)

I am amazed at how well made the product is, just magical!

after the purchase, I immediately sold the 50mm 1.8 and forgot it like a bad dream, after fifty dollars it is very pleasant to work with this lens (does not crunch, does not smear), for me personally it is a very convenient focal length, you don’t need to break walls in the apartment, you don’t need a wider angle, but here is a true portrait portrait I would also buy in addition) It also needs a 100% lens hood

Pros
  • build quality, photo quality is also on the level, compact, almost universal focal length on crop, compared to 50mm 1.8, it does not miss the focus.
Cons
  • the feeling that soaps in the back is stronger than 50mm 1.8

Exactly as promised by the manufacturer, high quality.

Used with 650D for portraits indoors, for outdoors (everything in a row that falls into 40mm focal length in composition) and for video - very satisfied. Pleasant bokeh, quite sharp and juicy picture, fast and accurate focus. The camera becomes like a compact and almost does not attract attention. It is not always convenient to zoom with your feet :=). You can hear (not loudly) the operation of the motor (compared to 18-135, it is generally silent). In combination with an on-camera flash…

Pros
  • sharp from 2.8, small dimensions and weight, STM
Cons
  • the "trunk" leaves a little, there is no stabilizer (it doesn't matter to me)

The product is faulty in some way, I definitely won't buy it again.

The main drawback is the focus mechanics. It differs from standard lenses in that there is no direct connection between the "focus" ring and the lens itself. The ring works like a joystick. You turn the ring, the lens gives a command to the camera, and it already moves the lens with a motor. Perhaps this helps in "silent" autofocus, but focusing manually is extremely difficult. The lens moves late, so it's hard to know if you've turned the knob correctly. Hence the constant failures. I do not…

Pros
  • Compact size (you can keep it constantly on the camera)
Cons
  • Focus system

The quality is at the level, I am satisfied with everything.

I doubted for a long time, waited until we get cheaper to 5 thousand (the bourgeois have long been $ 150) and took it. Reviews for this model are mixed - someone praises, someone does not. Basically, they blame the "noisy" stm of the fortieth (compared to the silent 18-135 stm). I do not have a 650D, so this is not a disadvantage for me. Optically, the 40 f/2.8 is noticeably better than its main competitor, the 50 f/1.8 ii, which even an inexperienced photographer will see when comparing…

Pros
  • Good optical performance. Moderately bright. Excellent, simply magnificent constructive for this money. Technically flawless.
Cons
  • Not found.

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Exactly what I needed, it's a great buy, I recommend it.

A good general purpose lens. Made with quality. The picture is dry, but the volume in the frame conveys well. The geometry of the width, it doesn’t look like fifty kopecks at all. Poorly "tears" the object from the background, but the bokeh is tolerable (7 aperture blades - no nuts or rings). The focusing system is quiet, but not amazing in speed, manual focus is not very convenient. Value "price-quality" - on chetverochku.

Pros
  • Sufficiently "bright" lens, neutral bokeh, good color reproduction, autofocus is quiet. Holds backlight very well. Convenient dimensions. The price is very tasty.
Cons
  • Autofocus is quite slow and doesn't work well in the dark. Vignette on an open aperture (I have a crop). VERY narrow depth of field at 2.8, when the diaphragm is closed, the depth of field zone expands reluctantly. The sharpness is very mediocre even on a covered aperture - I didn’t understand the enthusiasm in the reviews on this topic at all.

A really necessary purchase, Im glad I found this product.

STM, judging by the advertisement, should not make noise, on the 650D I tried to shoot video noise from the motor, which is heard when playing the recording. It’s not good for video, but I take pictures with great pleasure. and that's a lot. In general, I am satisfied with the purchase, although I expected something else. Manual focusing ONLY works when the shutter button is half-pressed, focusing does not work when the camera is turned off (this is a feature of the lens)

Pros
  • high-quality picture, high sharpness, and at the edges it does not decrease much.
Cons
  • focus for a long time, whale 18-55 is faster! Of course, it makes less noise, but it is clearly audible.

I'm very happy with the product, it's very satisfying.

Used on crop. One of my favorite lenses. Even according to simple statistics, most of the best shots were taken on him, despite 11 others :3 Due to good sharpness, it can be used well with macro rings. In addition, I used it on a camera converted to IR light. There he shows himself just fine, I often don’t take him off the alteration, dragging a second carcass. I saw - I got it - I photographed it, with this size the storage of the second carcass is not a problem.

Pros
  • Excellent sharpness already open Cheerful autofocus (it’s not the fastest, but it focuses for a certain time from a min. distance to a max., but as a rule I have a normal range from 5-10m to infinity - in this mode it’s smart and practically doesn’t carry a trunk), you can always finish it with your hands even in the AF position. Bright colors, contrast. Compact design, the front lens is recessed into the housing. Well assembled, no backlash. Subjectively: I like the nature of the bokeh and the appearance of the out-of-focus zones, there is no dirty blur like on a number of Soviet and not only optics.
Cons
  • There is some vignetting when open. On ordinary subjects it is not so noticeable, but against the background of the sky and uniform fills it is already quite. The absence of a stub is not critical, I rarely shot at such a shutter speed that would require it at all.

The best product, from those that I have viewed, I advise everyone!

The lens pleases like a small but very cute toy of a child;) shoots so that it even seemed to me that it was "L". Of course, in reality this is not so, and whoever wants to find fault will find something. But, sorry, for the money he works wonders. And the size and weight allow it to be a lens for every day. I liked it more than my canon 50mm 1.4, and fifty dollars cost 2 times more. It shoots great video (camera 5D-II), but I just didn’t understand how STM smooth focusing turns on when…

Pros
  • -the size -the weight - workmanship quality -price (took for 6.5) -silent -good background blur - good sharpness - no noise - excellent autofocus -Minimum focusing distance 30cm.
Cons
  • Haven't revealed yet.

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The quality is at the level, I am satisfied with everything.

Definitely worth taking. Moreover, if this is your first fix, I would venture to recommend it instead of 50mm f1.8. Let 50mm be more aperture, but its mechanics are very lousy, they need strong nerves, because. misses happen very often, and the backlash is large. Just rebuild manually, remove your hand - the lens has shifted. This is a pleasure to use. I don’t know where it came from that since STM, then, by definition, it should be ultra-fast and silent. Maybe advertising is everything. But,

Pros
  • Contrasting and sharp picture. Doesn't lather when open. The build quality is excellent, there is no backlash, the focus ring is very nice and rotates smoothly. Allows the matrix completely! There are no glare and hares. Autofocus is top notch. Yes, not the fastest, if it seems to anyone that since STM, then it should be fast by definition, but accurate. The stepper motor allows the controller to measure the position very accurately, and therefore the focus does not twitch back and forth, but immediately falls into place without jerks and misses.
Cons
  • Manual focus electric. The ring is a valcoder, that is, there is no direct mechanical connection. The downside is that there is some delay, the dependence is not direct, and when the speed of rotation of the ring changes, its effect is also different. If you twist in one direction smoothly and return quickly (or vice versa), the focus will not return to its place, but will under-twist or twist.

The quality is at the highest level, be sure to try it.

I needed a portrait painter (I know now the pros will get excited and start branding me as an ignoramus, don’t, I know everything) for a crop that doesn’t smear every other time and gives acceptable sharpness, well, like an average amateur who never has a lot of money, and pay crazy money for elks no desire. Long story short I read the reviews and bought it. First impressions are only positive, as a familiar pro said, the sharpness is such that you take a picture of your face, and acne is…

Pros
  • There are no such prices (I took mine for 7000)
Cons
  • What could be the disadvantages at such a price and functionality.

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best price for such a product, I will buy more!

Super staffer (for FF). For a lens priced at 5k, all flaws become features. The object is simply excellent - for non-professional use. Portraits, despite the fact that it is almost wide, turn out wonderful (not facial ones, of course). was half an hour. I am extremely surprised and incredibly happy with the investment of 5k, because the picture of this baby is even juicier. The colors are bright, the contrast is super (you don't have to tighten it up), the sharpness is "ringing". That is, all…

Pros
  • Sharp, contrasty, excellent color reproduction, VERY SMALL, excellent FF for FF, beautiful bokeh
Cons
  • Autofocus is a) not very fast under normal shooting conditions. Dynamic scenes (like a concert) can not be done, or in time from the 100500th attempt b) in low light it is very slow, only at the central point it turns out to focus relatively quickly. I am glad that it focuses nevertheless accurately. The construct is fragile - you need to treat the object very carefully. I’m almost sure that any repair will cost as much as the lens itself. When focusing, the trunk moves out, like in 50mm / 1.4 - that is, you need to buy a lens hood, otherwise you can kill the lens with a light blow to the trunk (I suppose).

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A nice option for the money, one of the best deals.

Why did I write about aperture as a virtue, although the glass is not very bright: the open hole is quite working, and when making portraits you don’t have to close the aperture like on lighter lenses, so the bokeh turns out to be smooth, pleasant :) I decided to write a review because I noticed an unusual effect that I have not observed so far. The lens has a 7-bladed aperture, but in night photos it draws beautiful, symmetrical 14-ray stars. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Pros
  • Price, luminosity.
Cons
  • You can mention manual focus, but I never used it specifically for focusing.
