🔧 Aftermarket Replacement Carburetor for Kohler K161 K181 Engine Review

After reading some reviews I decided to buy this for my Wheel Horse with 8hp Kohler engine. Several previous buyers listed three things to do and all of the suggestions worked perfectly. Here they are: 1 enlarging the hole for the throttle cable (easy to drill), 2 tapping the front for the air cleaner mounting plate (easy enough), 3 removing the choke lever from the old carb and swapping it over to the new carb, (easy - the new one is built in the opposite direction to the original). ATTENTION! If you wish to check the float height adjustment, do so BEFORE running fuel through this carburetor. Otherwise the o-ring will swell and you will have to leave it in the sun for a while until it shrinks enough to fit back into the bowl. Also, you may find that your air cleaner's mounting plate aligns with two blind holes. In my case, one hole was tapped and two were not. I wish I could give 0 stars! The carburetor had good reviews which they must have written themselves because my carburetor was terrible. First, the carburetor vent screw holes were unthreaded so I had to tap the holes out. The carburetor was then installed and the engine would not start. I unscrewed the main adjusting screw to find that when reassembling it went down and broke the tip that is used for the air/fuel mixture. I bought this carburetor to replace the one on my 8hp Kohler TroyBilt Horse. The carburetor itself was a perfect fit, but I had to make a few modifications. One change: The choke that came with the new carburetor was interfering with my air cleaner housing. I removed the choke from my old carburetor and installed it in the new carburetor. I bought this carb for my 8hp paint scheme. on a mobile milling machine from Troy Bilt. It fits and works like the original. But I had to follow another buyer's advice in the comments here and make a few simple changes to get everything fitted exactly like the original. Drill a hole in the throttle stick to make the original connection. Light. Then remove the choke from the old carburetor and replace it with a new one to make the choke work like the original.
