This unit allowed me to capture raw video from my compact VCR and convert it to MP4 format. I'm sure Legacy Box or other similar services will at least do that. But after converting them to MP4 format, I was able to edit them in Adobe Premiere Elements, add titles, special graphics, special effects, etc. It's a personal and stylistic matter that changes with each recording.
