Requires a 1-7/8 " wrench to tighten

Large, bulky and probably a little overweight for a 4000 lb trailer. 8" wrench so a word of caution for anyone who only have a standard fob key.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Defects

Make no mistake with the curt ball.

This is the 15,000th bullet, but I'm only towing the 10,000th tag. It has a nice finish, smooth and shiny. I installed this on a Blue Ox BXW1000 Sway Pro. It has a 1-1/4 shank, so for proper installation you will need a 1-13/16 socket and a torque wrench that can reach 450 ft.lbs.

Pros

Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Good quality, good value for money

I used this to tow an 11,000 lb load (forklift and trailer) behind my F-450 and it is still in good condition. If you want a durable 2 5/16 ball you won't find a better one for the price. Update: I've used it a few times to haul quite heavy loads and it still works. If you need a sturdy 2 5/16 inch diameter ball, this one will do.

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Some imperfections

Cheap Chrome Finish

I love Curt products but this bullet is chrome plated which means after very little use the chrome will come off exposing the copper and dull steel underneath which will oxidize and make the work ugly and messy without gloves. The steel itself seems soft because it's easy to extrude. I exchanged and received a ยฃ25,000 grade 5 stainless steel ball. What would I recommend for that? The price difference is less than $10.

Pros
  • Best in the Niche
Cons
  • Minor Issues

Very Good Heavy Duty Balls

Not only did I install a new hitch for a heavy duty trailer, I also replaced an old, worn out ball on my weight distribution system for my caravan, so I ordered two of these. They are very nicely made and finished. The only thing that might make installation difficult for some people is that the nut is 1-7/8" across flats and needs to be torqued to 450 ft-lbs! Crowbar, a big 1-7/8" -Socket and a giant 600 ft-lbs proto-torque wrench. One trick I like to use is to place the ball mount sidewaysโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Dope ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Cons
  • Frequency

Very happy with the quality of Curt.

I recently installed a Curt receiver, bought a new weight distribution hitch and needed a new ball. Wanting to be all Kurt, I chose the 15,000 bullet because it was cheaper and had a larger shaft. It was easy to install once I found someone with an outlet big enough for a giant nut. I am very satisfied with the quality of Curt products.

Pros
  • RELIABLE STRENGTH. This hitch ball is designed to tow a trailer with a gross vehicle weight rating of up to 15,000 lbs. It's made from hot-forged, heat-treated steel for maximum tensile strength and total confidence on the road.
Cons
  • Upgradeable

They both worked fine. None broke or could not be manufactured.

This is my second ball head from Curt. The first was a 2-inch ball rated for 10,000 pounds. They both worked fine. None of them broke down and didn't do what they were supposed to do. However, I will say that the chrome plating will come off. I am using them for the first time. And I'm not thrilled that they are made in China. I bet if they were made in the USA the chrome plating would last longer since China cheats on everything they do.

Pros
  • CORROSION RESISTANT. For long-lasting protection from rain, mud and rust, this ball head has a durable, protective chrome finish.
Cons
  • Big and bulky
