Works with Windows 10

This adapter works great with my new HP PC which doesn't have a dual band adapter (and is very hard to find to replace). I am using Windows 10. D-Link website and downloaded the installation package. It installs and runs like a champ. So many reviews said it didn't work with Windows 10 that I didn't want to order it, but I was dying to try it with my new D-Link dual-band router. Over the years I've found that matching brands to computer hardware is generally less of a problem. I've also seen…

Old computers and accessories

I bought this a few weeks ago and have had nothing but problems since. I have a Dlink router and this thing keeps losing connection with it. The router is on the 1st floor, this adapter is on the 2nd floor, but the direct distance is only about 20 feet. My other adapters work better. When plugged in, it works very quickly, but CONSTANTLY drops out. I called dlink support when I first installed it and they made me disable all other adapters, which helped but still didn't fix the issue. I also…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions

Based on other reviews of this product I was hoping to get revision C1 which has more mature Linux drivers ( rtl8812au) as the D1 that was sent to me. The D1 version requires rtl8822-bu drivers which have much less support and will not work with the openwrt distribution I had in mind. If you expect the D1 you will need to download and Compile your Linux drivers from source Hopefully this information is useful to someone.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Everything is great

Works with my Synology DiskStation

I got this to convert my Synology DiskStation to Wi-Fi. It was plug and play. I just plugged it into the NAS's USB port and set it up under Wi-Fi in the Settings app. The signal is stable and fast. After upgrading my latest device without Wi-Fi, I was able to get rid of my Switch and all the cables.

Not what I was hoping for.

I read a lot about this unit before I bought it, but none of the negative reviews changed my reason for buying it. I just wanted to improve wireless reception for my PLEX Media Player and I have a D-Link Dual Ban router. I thought it could only improve the situation. Contrary to other reviews, the software installation went smoothly. The setup wasn't bad, but I'm quite technical. My real problem is that I couldn't see a significant difference in my signal gain. The PC or laptop to which this…

Excellent speed, range and 5GHz channel works great.

That thing is cool. I did a stress test by downloading and streaming several Linix torrents at full speed. 50mbps down and 5 up. I leave it running all day and it doesn't freeze at all. Then I connected it to my Linux Mint laptop and it just worked. My only advice to Windows users is to not use the D-Links software. Instead, use Device Manager to find the driver on the CD, or better yet, download the latest drivers, unzip them (but don't run any programs) and browse them. If you don't like it…

Might work for some but NG on a Lenovo Y500 Gaming PC running Win 8.1.

The router I got, also from D-Link, works fine. But this part broke my Lenovo Y500 Gaming PC with BSOD. Software could not be uninstalled, files could not be deleted. I had to go into safe mode, manually delete files and do a system restore from that mode. (System restore from desktop failed twice.) I'm pretty sure I followed all the instructions, but even if I made a mistake, the results shouldn't have been so disastrous. WiFi 11N built in and I wanted to upgrade to 11ac. I know the built in…

Runs without cooling, ideal for N-Speed

This adapter was purchased to replace an almost new defective adapter - a postage stamp sized universal adapter which got very hot and died after 4 months. This D-Link adapter (DWA-182, version C) is about the size of a pack of chewing gum. It is ventilated on both sides and only slightly warmer than room temperature. My internet service runs at 80Mbps when connected with an ethernet cable. This adapter operates at 40-55Mbps with a USB 2 connection, which is more than enough for video streaming

Works with Ubuntu Linux 18.04.02 LTS

I was looking for a wireless adapter for my new Ubuntu build and bought it based on previous reviews that suggested it would work with Ubuntu 18.04.02 LTS, what I can confirm it is. It's not exactly "plug and play" like Windows, but it's still accessible to beginners. After connecting the adapter, open the Programs and Updates > Additional Drivers tab. There you should see D-Link Corp.: Unknown and an option for "Do not use device" or "Use dkms source for r8812au network driver from…
