Much better than fakes

This is the best gold band. I use it to coat the inside of high temp reflow ovens. There are other similar items at a lower price so I decided to try them. The insulating properties were very similar, but the adhesive is a different story. Photos tell a story. Please vote this review if you found it helpful so others can see it too.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Minor issues

Looks best in pieces

Very nice to look at so far. I'm not sure how effective this method is since the car is being restored. I applied this to my intercooler and it used up most of the 30' x 2" film which surprised me as I didn't expect it to be finished, just a TMIC 21" x 8" x4" to make. I'll have a lot more than I have left. Hopefully I have enough to cover my turbo intake hose. Will post a follow up when the car is on the road.

Pros
  • Durable test results
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Disappointing :( on heat shields

Well I went to the reviews and they let me down. I know well how and why every surface that comes in contact with the tape needs to be cleaned first and that material but sticks at first once the motor and every single part fitted it now doesn't work and looks horrible I assume it's just my batch because I know I'm in the minority but there's nothing I can do To say what I must do Say I wish I had high hopes.

  • Absolute Legend

Great product for lowering intake temperature

I have noticed a significant drop in temperature on my aluminum intake manifold. The pipe was untouchable after the ride, I could at least touch the intake pipe with the foil. The manifold cover has lowered the temperature significantly again and the intake pipe is now warm but not hot. I count that as a win given the proximity to the valve cover and exhaust manifold. Easy installation on straight sections, very difficult to wrap over welds and bends without creases.

Totally useless! in spare parts

It was supposed to reflect 80% of the heat but after I wrapped my cold air intake pipe found it added 7-8 degrees to its normal temperature. It's the same effect as some silver insulated reflective tape that didn't even advertise it. And that was $17 more for a total of $39. What a waste of money and false advertising. If you're like me and want to lower your intake air temp, you need to get a turbo. Unfortunately, that's the only way until they invent something that gets colder as the engine…

Poor adhesion for spare parts

This material does not adhere. It doesn't even stick to itself when deployed. Cleaning doesn't help, it doesn't stick anyway. Another thing is that he is not fat. It has what looks like drywall mesh tape, which is a single thick strand of fiberglass glued to the back of a piece of gold mylar. Definitely not worth $40. I was expecting to buy gold colored aluminized fiberglass that would really block the heat. Mylar only works if there is an air gap. Because of this, it won't work if it reflects…

Great tape at the right price.

The tape is great! I wrapped my STI intercooler and apart from looking great it helps keep my intercooler from overheating. I did this setup in winter so didn't have a chance to test it in summer, I'll update my review but I highly recommend this product. I've had no issues with the tape sticking to anything (intercooler or A/C pipe) although I cleaned all surfaces prior to the tape. Update from 07/31/16: The temperature under the hood is different at night than during the day. To be honest, I…

Cold Air Intake in Heat Shields

Copes well with thermal insulation. I used duct tape over the insulating foam and insulated the air intake tray from the entire engine compartment. Not everything is shown in the photos, but the hood is molded with heat-resistant foam that completely blocks the heat path. I used this material to make a really cool air intake where the heat from the engine bay doesn't get into the air intake. The cold air intake requires more than just a metal plate and rubber gasket. It needs to be insulated…

Great tape, add spray glue just in case

Absolutely awesome, definitely brings the temperature down on my consumption. Consistent with other people's comments online about the tape peeling off prematurely, I first sprayed the item to be wrapped with 3M Super 77 Spray Adhesive. In my case, I taped the turbine inlet I built since it's on the hot side of mine Turbine. Before I wrapped the air intake, my first few rides with the car showed heat exposure after full hard hits, especially when it's hotter outside. I installed the tape by…
