As stated in the headline, it works better than some of the generic cameras that I have all of which have automatic IR cut filters. Principally, it gives a better quality picture in both day and night modes and to me is worth the increased cost over the generic cameras that I have. Night vision is not quite as good as some of the commercial security cameras that I have used, but is acceptable.

The square frame burned the heck out of my fingers after being plugged in for less than a minute on the Raspberry Pi 3b+. STAY AWAY!

Replaced the regular Raspberry PI camera with this one - PI 3B+ wouldn't recognize it at first. Ran raspi-config and had to re-enable camera. Working now.

Great value. This camera works as advertised. We are currently working with this device using python.This product produced the first image. It also captures video of similar quality. The second image is from a smartphone to show product.

This is a chinese knockoff of the V1 pi camera. It has the IR cut that automatically switches between day and night vision modes. Only issue if getting the filter to switch at the right time. On mine I had to partially block the photocell so it would switch to night vision before it gets dark and not 30min after.

This is a great add-on for a raspberry pi. You hook up the camera and start coding. My kids made a code for a computer key to take a picture after a delay of 3 seconds. You do have to know basic coding in order to use this, but once you have the code in you’re good to go. My kids want to eventually put this into a robot. They love it! I have two of these cameras and both have the same basic problems: the IR-cutoff circuit does not activate properly in low light and the IR lights NEVER shut off in daylight. Although the IR lights have trimmer pots to adjust the switch-off threshold, the circuits are so out of balance that no amount of adjustment will get them to turn off in darkness and turn back on in daylight - they can only be rigged to either be on all the time or off all time. This camera works great. I ordered the optional night vision LEDs. The camera switches to night vision automatically without any issues. I am using the open source software "RPI_Cam_Interface” with a web server to get live video from the camera.Dorhea is awesome! The focus ring is easy to adjust and get a razor sharp image. I'm using this to do time-lapse videos and it seems like it will work great. I wish I had purchased a camera mount, but for now, some masking tape will do.

Comparing this to the pi Noir camera 2.0. This camera is lower quality and it's FOV is a lot narrower. The Noir camera is advertised as 62.2. This camera is advertised at 72. This camera's FOV is way less than the Noir camera.

I attached the related IR lights to each side and with those this has good range and switches well between day and night mode. Used with the MotionEyeOS on a Zero W which works well but the Zero is a bit under powered for fast frame rates at 640x480 set to 25fps. But good enough to monitor the deck to see what critter is triggering the motion lights. I'll probably try it with my 3B+ or Pi 4 to see the performance I can get out of it. Definitely can see ordering more for future projects.

Despite the FoV listed as "72" degrees, the widest I can get worked out to be closer to 50 degrees. Not quite enough to cover all three of my garage doors (see photo). Image resolution is OK but optics and/or focus are mediocre (again, see photo ;) although that's not an issue for what I'm using it for. I'm not using the IR at the moment, but the bare camera handles low light very well.
