🔌 Dorman 742-446 Power Window Motor - Front Driver Side for Chrysler and Dodge Models Review

Perfect fit for my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. My windows stopped working so I decided to replace the motor. It was pretty easy to do. One of the plastic plugs didn't work so I had to use a bolt and nut to secure it. Check out the YouTube video for the 2006 trailer and it's the same as the 2005 one.

About a year ago the driver's window on my wife's minivan stopped working. I thought it was the switch, I replaced the switch, there is still no window. I hate fixing electrical problems in cars so I took a break from it for a while. We went to Florida this spring and decided to give the engine swap another try and it worked. Now the wife is happy with 2 working windows, and I'm a bit sad just because "It only took me 30 minutes and $40 to fix the window!" from time to time.

Even the plastic fasteners! An installation note: before dismantling, watch the online video and do not (!) take the spindle out of the body - if you do this, the work will be much more. Next time I'll get that replacement before I disassemble things. My spindle fell out, the cables weren't routed, and I had to take the entire mechanism out to put it all back together (still not bad, but definitely more work). If I did it the easy way it would take less than 1/2 hour from start to finish.

I took a chance not needing the controller assembly so I bought this particular motor. I think I'm lucky. the window went up very slowly and now much faster. My only complaint is the awful plastic clips that come with the motor to attach it to the door frame. I had 2 out of 3 clips fail when I pushed them hard. Sophisticated product; Good thing is that interchangeable mounting hardware is included. There were no instructions for the engine, but the Dorman website has general instructions and Youtube has plenty of instructions. The symptom was that the window wouldn't go up and down intermittently and then magically work again for a while. Most dealers sell this part with the controller/cables. If they aren't broken, it's much easier to just swap out the motor. I suggest using a 12V tester (e.g. http://www.amazon.com/TOOGOO-6V-12V-Electrical-Circuit-Equipment/dp/B00HZY2TR6) before purchasing to make sure that the motor is getting power, as it may be a bad switch.
