Poor Quality Control

Bought 4 of these. One turned out to be defective, which resulted in additional costs, days of downtime and a second time the intake manifold was torn off. Not a fan of Dorman products due to these and other defective parts.

Pros
  • Excellent Overall
Cons
  • Something else

Bad Dorman Products

I ordered a set of 4 then had to call Amazon because 3 were defective. All 4 replaced. The next set 1 was defective. After 2 weeks I noticed an oil leak in the engine. 3, O-rings were broken. I rate 0 Dorman has bad products.

Pros
  • Great product
Cons
  • There are new competitors

Check the solenoids before assembling the motor.

Exactly what I was looking for but I had to check them before putting them in. I hired a mechanic to install all four but after he did that one of the solenoids failed and now it's costing $450 for the job instead of the original $250. Glad they sent me a replacement part quickly and 3 out of 4 worked.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

Dorman mds solenoid

Got this for my 5.7 as the OE unit broke, I have to say the metal design is much better than the plastic. Easily installed but removing the old one was a nightmare, ended up using a small body dent puller at a parts store at 3pm and pulled it out. This product is also a lot cheaper here than at the parts store, but be aware that it's better for your wallet if you can go a few days without it.

Pros
  • Great for a small house
Cons
  • Not sure

Do Not Buy: Starter & Parts

Purchased 4 gauges on a 2008 Chrysler Aspen 5.7, 103,000 miles. The engine is fine except for a code indicating a cylinder deactivation sensor. I replaced all 4 sensors in August 2021. Ran fine for a few hundred miles then shook and gave out a code. I have returned/replaced the sensor linked to the code. 1500 km driven normally. Now the same again. I'm trying to ship back to Dorman under warranty. I intend to replace them with genuine Mopar parts. A hard lesson learned.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Quick Guide

Ordered twice; FAILED TWICE!

This Dorman 916-511 XD Cylinder Deactivation Solenoid was specified for my 2008 Chrysler Aspen. After this magnet was installed by Dorman to replace the original factory installed magnet, it failed after only 75 miles. It illuminated the Check Engine light and returned an error code suggesting the part had failed. After significant disassembly efforts, dyno testing confirmed that the part was indeed faulty - it worked and didn't work intermittently. Dorman's marketing hype surrounding this…

Pros
  • Ease of Use
Cons
  • Functionality
