Definitely sucks (in a good way)

It's big (still enough for one hand), lots of suction, fun to work with. Some people find a compression spring every time they get old and that's probably true of the pros (not me), that's a lot in life. Disassembling for cleaning is an easy find, but a messy one. Plastic is made, but not flimsy. Reliable so far, hope it lasts.

Pros
  • Trial for a year
Cons
  • Vanish

Works but cheap is its best attribute

If you're going to use a mechanical suction cup it seems pretty good but it's almost impossible to get advice without paying what the tool costs, so for about 25 grand (and no less for fakes) I bit the bullet and got the Hakko 30x series and oh my god it's worth it. If you can't afford Hakko then that will more or less get you there. I've never been good with wicks, I'm prone to overheating and it doesn't get much better. Try soldering and/or fluxing to make melting and sucking easier, and…

Spend a little more and get a good tool. You won't regret it

New to electronics repair (pinball!) so I bought some cheaper Revain solder and they actually worked fine for a very short period of time. Knockback on cheap break tools in a short time. This Edsyn is built to last. It will not break during use. It also has a very strong suction power. Spend a little more and get a good tool. You will not regret it. If you are not familiar with the Edsyn size, it will surprise you. The total length is 13 inches, the length of the suction shaft is 7.5 inches…

It's HUGE! fits parts and accessories

Let me say it again. It's huge! Like a clown but I have big hands. Apparently I didn't read the size description. You should. It does its job well, but no better than the cheaper Chinese version. As for durability, time will tell. It's so big that I can't use it on most of the chips I work with. The tip is the same size as other suction cups, but the body does not allow penetration into small areas. If you're looking for an accurate suction cup in a compact size, this isn't for you. This is…

It sucks but in a good way!

Bought this a few weeks ago to help remove solder on some small through hole electronics projects I'm working on. To be honest I wasn't sure what to expect as the reviews seem to be everywhere. However, I'm happy to report that this thing works great. In fact, it works better than some of the best solder wicks I've used. Yes, the thing is big, but I had no problem getting the tip close enough to the component to remove all of the solder with just one "sucker". Some are confused by the size of…

The best solder sucker you can buy!

I saw this tool in a YouTube video and I've never seen a barrel that big. I started researching and found out who it was. There is nothing better for processing old circuit boards from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. It cleans larger through-hole components with near-zero defects the first time. Add some new solder and then vacuum it all up. There are times when this doesn't work perfectly as it's quite long and larger in diameter than traditional aluminum. Not suitable everywhere. I like the small

Pros
  • Country of origin: USA
Cons
  • Not sure

Incidentally, although I've been soldering through-hole and surface mount components for over 20 years, I've always used underpowered suction cups. Even the college CS and EE labs only had these unnamed dark blue 6-8 inch models. As I got older, whenever I needed a new solder cup, I would get it after the fact from a store like Radio. cottage etc. A $20 patch (at the time of writing) might seem like a lot - it can buy over a hundred 555 timers or resistors a year - so if you're hesitant to…

Pros
  • Excellent suction power

  • Crumpled packaging

Amazing suction in soldering and soldering equipment

This is an amazing solder suction device. It has amazing suction power that works really well to suck up melted solder from the joints you want to desolder. I used to have an old radio store style cylindrical metal suction cup that I can't find anymore. So I went ahead and bought this one after reading some reviews online. The reviews didn't lie, this is a very good solder with a lot of suction power. It's like night and day compared to the old RS block. If you still use a low suction cup…
