Good digital multimeter for everyday use

I have had this little multimeter for a few years now and it is a real gem. It's compact, has a large, easy-to-read display, and performs 8 functions including standard AC/DC and even temperature. One feature I really like is the setup, which is specifically designed to test 1.5v and 9v batteries. Using a multimeter is the only reliable way to decide whether to dangle those loose batteries in your trash can or toss them. . I'm certainly not an electronics expert, but it wasn't hard to figure it

All the features you could want at a very reasonable price

I've owned it for a few years and thought I'd give it a try. I paid $15-$20 for it, not bad. I've used it for everything from watches, small appliances, power troubleshooting to battery testing. I need a thermocouple to measure the temperature, I was about to buy one and found that it fits. It took me 30 minutes to find the sensor but it works. It has served me well over the years as an amateur, but there are some downsides. If I use it more often, I would get a better one. Pros - Inexpensive -

Suitable for everyday use for testers

Advantages: Inexpensive. Battery tester included (a voltmeter is not enough to test a battery, you need a load to properly measure its operating voltage and it is built into this multimeter). Cons: The thermocouple is heavily disabled, essentially useless. The continuity tester is buggy and drastically affects the ears. The thermocouple correctly reads the temperature of ice water, but the readings for boiling water and body/room temperature differ by about 5-10 degrees Celsius. This means it's

Great meter under $20 for hobbyists

I bought this multimeter for hobby electronics use and it has served me really well. I first bought an EX 330 and found I needed a second multimeter to measure current and voltage at the same time. measurements. I've come across many handheld rangefinders in the $20 range but settled on this one (Extech MN35). Because the Extech 330 did very well. turned out to be easy - and it measures voltage and current much faster than my Extech 330 auto range. I have used this meter in several Arduino…

First of all, a good counter - unsuccessful after 2.5 years

I liked this counter at first, but it didn't last long. I used it fairly regularly (maybe once a week) for about two and a half years before it broke. I work in experimental physics, so I use many instruments quite extensively and I know how to use all their functions. While we have a collection of multimeters in the lab ranging from other Extechs to Flukes, I wanted to buy a basic multimeter for my own home use. A meter I use often in the lab is the Extech Autoranging, and it has served me…

Amazing accuracy and factory calibration.

I needed a pair of inexpensive DMMs with basic functionality that I could carry in my tool bags. Extechs fit the bill perfectly. The first thing I ordered was the MN35, and in fact I checked its factory calibration with a couple of much more expensive meters at the store, an old Fluke 8000A/AZ benchtop meter that I calibrated every few years, and a WaveTek handheld. It was top notch, $600 DMM 15 or 20 years ago when I bought it. Both gauges agree on everything I throw at them. Surprisingly, the

Reliable range of multitesters

I am very happy with this multimeter. I'm an EE and have a number of home projects and I'm very impressed with this counter considering it's only $20. The manual gives specs and most measurements are within 2% which is pretty accurate for what I do. The temperature sensor has proven to be very useful. I didn't plan on using it at all, but I built a power supply and used a probe to check the temperature of the heatsink. I used this information to determine the correct timing to turn the fan on…
