I have replaced the Raymarine 125 GPS receiver with this unit. As it supports NMEA 0183 it worked as a replacement, just remember to set the baud rate reducer (reduces the GPS update rate to 1x/s). I used an under deck mounting kit which looked very easy and a lot easier/better than traditional rail mount GPS units. Great product so far!

Pros
  • Sea of positive emotions
Cons
  • Long delivery time

This GPS receiver has a solid construction but it should...

This GPS receiver has a solid construction but it shouldn't be used as an accuracy tester like I tried. During a formal GPS coverage test requested by a customer, I recorded the NMEA output in .csv format and found that 5.2% of the records were corrupt. The corrupted data didn't mess up my test, but made data processing much more difficult.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Expensive

This is Garmin. What I expected!

Finally time to add this to our 2001 chase boat we bought which had an old Garmin GPSMAP 2006C and Garmin 17 antenna. Replaced the 17 animal chewed antenna to this one and ran using the old cables and following the detailed instructions along with the ones we printed off from the Garmin website. Soldered and all connections wrapped with shrink tubing. We caught six satellites and landed for cover! Can't wait to get it out on the water, do some testing and flag some good fishing spots. Thank you

Pros
  • Rugged build
Cons
  • Useless features

It works as a Garmin GPS 17 replacement!

So my trusty Garmin GPS-17 was struck by lightning and needed a replacement that would work with my old chartplotter. The GPS-19 was really the only choice other than used 17s. Installation of the GPS-19 has shown that it is not an "exact replacement" as many parts vary from connector sizes to mounting brackets. But the "secret ingredient" is to put a speed-limiting resistor (it was included) in the wiring to slow down the data rate. It wasn't clear in the instructions why this should be done…

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Almost never

Enough for Antarctica.

I use it to research snow in Antarctica and Greenland. It outputs GPGGA and GPRMC strings at 10 Hz and 38400 baud. It is currently compatible with GSSI SIR-30 and SIR-4000, not tested with SIR-3000. I have now bought five units and have never had a problem with any of them. She. Setup is incredibly easy as there is none. Turn on the power and the device will output data right out of the box. (Garmin has a way to interact with the device, but I didn't think about that). Bought these to replace…

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • A bit torn

Nice 3 Meter GPS - GPS, Finder & Accessories

I do GPS surveys and soil sampling on ATVs. First of all, I was interested in the capabilities of GPS + GLONASS, 5Hz and 10Hz updates, as well as the claimed increased accuracy. I tested many functions of the Garmin 19x HVS. POSITIVES The device feels solid and waterproof. Easy to assemble. It uses NMEA 0183 (version 2 or 3 can be selected using Garmin utility). I've used it at 38400 and 4800 baud with the jumper on and with some computer applications. I like the 5Hz refresh rate, the GPS track
