Gates 31848 Gas Cap Review

Do not buy from this dealer. I bought a gas cap from them and realized they sent me a damaged cap! I took my car to see why my check engine light wouldn't reset after trying to reset it manually. Now I have to buy a gas cap. A complete waste of money.

An ideal replacement for the factory plug. Great price under $7. The only downside is that there is no hole to attach the cable to the car. There is a place on the gas cap to hold the cap in place while refueling, but I would have preferred a taped hole or removable plug so I could attach a strap.

This cover was used on a 2006 BMW X5 for 1 year. No questions. It fits well and looks almost like the original except there is no BMW branding on this item. This item is more or less identical to the stock OEM coverage that somehow disappeared during an overnight multi-state overland trip. I would recommend it to anyone who needs to replace the gas cap.

I ordered this item because the rubber seal on my old lid broke. It arrived quickly and very well packaged. It was an exact BMW replacement for my 2003 BMW 325I. The kit even included a rubber strap to attach to the fuel filler flap. The lid just feels beefy and doesn't feel like replacing junk at auto parts stores. If I need a replacement I will definitely order this again as it's about half the cost of a BMW dealer.

2003 BMW 530i. When your "Check Engine Soon" warning light comes on, especially after you've refueled, it can be as simple as a blown lightbulb or a gas cap with worn rubber seals. Remove the gas cap, look at it. If the rubber is cracked or hardened, buy this product and install it in 2 minutes, if not less. For real. It is so easy. My light went out and hasn't been on since. This product fits perfectly, is easy to install and has met all my expectations!

The Gates cap has a blue center instead of green. The cap looks like it is half the weight of an original BMW cap. When you twist the original cap, you will hear a click as it is tightened. The Gates cap simply stops and does not allow further tightening. I am concerned about the quality of the Gates cap. Update April 2014 - My BMW dashboard occasionally shows an error message saying the cap needs to be tightened. This coincided with my installation of an OBD II portable diagnostic adapter that reads OBD codes, so I'm wondering if it's the cap or the adapter that's somehow causing the message. Don't believe the photo. While this product certainly works and fits my BMW, it is NOT a genuine BMW product as stated in the product information. So three stars for the work but minus two stars for lying. The rubber seal on my original BMW fuel cap was worn out and needed replacing.
