Will not fit 1998 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS

Revane said this kit will fit my 1998 2.5RS but only 3 out of 5 gaskets will fit: crankcase gasket, shaft seal and large o-ring. . You will still need two tank sealing washers (34443aa010), an o-ring between tank and pump (from the o-ring kit) and a tank plate (34425ac030).

Pros
  • Cool product
Cons
  • Good but not great

2/3 of what you need.

The fit was great. The pump no longer leaks through the top of the block. Be sure to remove the pulley without special tools or experience to replace the front seal. I was missing one or the other or both and I just replaced the o-rings and all was good. Also, I went to the dealer to get two more gaskets to keep the tank from leaking. Don't do this remodel without them.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Modern

Steering Pump Overhaul

This kit was used to overhaul a 1996 Subaru Impreza pump. The kit failed after 200 miles, indicating seal failure. After speaking to a steering specialist, I decided to replace the pump with a rebuilt Cardone via Revain. I'll report back after the replacement but it seems like the restore almost never works and it's best to replace. However, Subaru sells a rebuild kit and I'm wondering if the quality of their kit is any better.

  • Handy Item
Cons

Save money! and easy to do!

Great job! My power steering pump on my old 1998 Subaru was leaking badly. When driving uphill or under hard acceleration, it often gave off an accidental burning smell as liquid seeped onto the manifold and burned off. So I decided to seal it myself instead of buying a new one. The job was relatively easy and saved me over $100. And now my car doesn't smell like fire anymore. Victory!

Inexpensive repair of a leaking pump but not complete

I used this kit to repair the power steering pump on my 1998 Subaru Legacy. My pump has started leaking fluid from the front seal. If you checked you saw that remanufactured horsepower pumps for this machine cost over $120 and since I'm pretty good with tools a rebuild seemed like the right thing to do to save some serious money. I found this kit had almost everything needed to rebuild the pump. There are three additional parts you will need for a proper overhaul: A new bearing, available from…

  • Nice workmanship
