96 Caravan Serpentine Belt Final Fix

Gates Timing Belt Drive Component Kit 38342K fixes a recent issue with the 96 Dodge Caravan. The OEM idler pulley has a smooth surface that will cause the multi-ribbed belt to squeak or slip, especially in wet weather. The Gates Component Kit replaces the Original Equipment idler pulley with a grooved pulley for a non-slip, better grip, eliminating belt slippage and squeaks. This inexpensive solution gave us more security when traveling and was definitely worth the investment.

Quick and easy for belt

I have a bearing failure in one of the pulleys on my Dodge Caravan. I couldn't determine where it came from so I ordered this kit hoping it was an idler wheel or tensioner. I also liked the idea of having a ribbed strap on both sides to prevent the ribbed strap from slipping. It took me about 45 minutes from start to finish to remove and replace the tensioner, tensioner and belt and the problem was solved. Possible downside of this upgrade. the availability of a replacement Gates style…

Great solution to a Chrysler problem

Chrysler should be ashamed. I have a 1997 Grand Voyager Rally. The snake belt kept slipping in wet weather. You MUST know about it. Since many others have had the same problem, the ONLY real solution is to get a kit. DO NOT let the dealer sell you parts and labor! Chains wanted to charge $450 to $550 for parts and labor. I bought it online for $107 and had it installed by a GREAT mechanic (Holmes Auto in Oswego) for $126. Only $233.00! One caveat: make sure you buy the right motor. I originally

Easy and pleasant. in belt

Well on my first 3.0L caravan the belt never fell off so I was lucky. I needed a new tensioner, but at $79 I figured a kit would be best. Well built and easy to install. I will explain step by step how I did it. Tools needed: JackJack 15mm flat socket 12 or 3/8 point 15mm deep socket 12 or 3/8 point 10mm deep socket 3/8 ratchet 3 /8-breaker (optional) Instructions: 1) Disconnect Pos+ or neg- battery cables. 2) Lift the passenger side of the vehicle by the frame rail. 3) PLACE THE STAND UNDER…

Nice kit but make sure it fits your engine

I have a 1999 Plymouth Voyager with a 3.3 liter engine. The belt in this kit (an integral part of the design advantages) is not for the 3.3 liter engine! A simple (yes I didn't do this until the strap was fairly taut) would be helpful to check the strap you are removing. Mine was obviously too short (maybe the 3.0-litre shorter?) - or maybe it's a belt for a non-AC setup? See the new comments below for the strap. I avoided the hassle of installing a new tensioner and removed the new knurled…
