🔧 Optimized Search: GEARWRENCH CV Joint Boot Clamp Tightener Wrench - Model 3191D Review

I bought this to use on a Jeep Wrangler driveshaft boot. It worked great and the extra clip broke off on the first try. The instructions aren't great, so if you've never used a tool like this before, find a video or two online and you'll be done.

The tool tightened the clamps but almost broke in the process. The tapes didn't cut, the cutter arm flexed when I tried. I could apply bandages, but I had to fight it. I will buy a better instrument next time. Save yourself some time and spend a few more dollars on a better tool. I wish I could.

The cutter must have a slot for the ribbon to go through and when you need to cut the ribbon you simply turn the handle and the blade pushes in the ribbon and cuts it. Well, there is NO slot in the cutter. The wrench used to tighten the strap was not crimped on one end, so it was useless. Whoever copied the instrument didn't bother to learn how it was supposed to work, and whoever built it didn't bother to verify their work. It has to be the worst tool.

I don't know how much work this will take but I've made four shoes (8 clips total) and it's still ok. The first was my learning experience, the next 7 went much smoother. What I didn't understand is that the extreme lever is there to trim excess material off the clamp after tightening. It cuts pretty well and is a lot smoother than any other cutters you have. The tool paid for itself after one job, I would buy the same again although this does suggest it has a lifetime guarantee.

This worked great for the dual bands that came with my 1994 GKN Civic constant velocity joints. I don't think they could have been installed without this tool. Two things I didn't realize at first: 1. When tightening the band, the nose of the tool is against the retaining ring, meaning you're pulling the band up at an angle of about 30 degrees.
