Description of 1 Quart of General Finishes Lamp Black Water-Based Milk Paint

This paint is self-sealing and does not require a topcoat. Do not apply clear topcoats over bright white paint, as yellowing may occur due to a reaction to the substrate. Light color paints may also experience yellowing due to topcoat application, but it will less noticeable. Extremely durable premium furniture paint with high adhesion rated for interior or exterior use. Apply over raw wood or prepped existing finishes. Perfect for upcycling and cabinet refinishing. Apply 2-3 coats by roller, brush or sprayer with an HVLP 2.0 tip. Water cleanup.

Easy to use: paints, wall care products and accessories

I love General Fonishes products. I do no preparation; I simply clean the item thoroughly and start painting. The first coat is always thin and doesn't cover much, so I apply three full coats and then do the necessary touch ups. The product dries very quickly - within 30-45 minutes I can usually apply the next layer. In the photos I ended up with 3 layers of heavy duty satin top. This made the black darker, deeper and less matt. I find that a top coat is necessary with dark colors, otherwise…

Best Paint Period

If you've never had milk paint experience, do your research. This stuff is THE BEST. It dries in about 15-30 minutes and sticks to everything. I painted our waxed laminate kitchen cabinets without sanding them AT ALL. I wiped down the existing cabinets with a degreaser to remove dirt and grease from the surface. I then painted the cabinets about 5 times to make them look nice and dark black. Be sure to use General Finishes. It's like a thick gloss that feels fantastic and protects cabinets…

No perceptible odor, excellent coverage and excellent results.

I do a lot of DIY projects and General Finishes is the best of the best. They are sold in expensive woodworking shops for a reason. Milk color Lamp Black has been on the "list to use” for quite some time. There are many other milky colors out there, but I don't know if any of them are easier to use than this one. Cabinets for my home office. Found it here at Revain and it's a lot cheaper than buying several smaller containers. I cannot recommend this milk color enough. The pictures I have…

Looks bad until dry

I have painted 2 dressers this color including drawers. I needed two shifts. in everything except boxes. I probably would have had enough work on the boxes, but I did fun galaxy colors over black so a second coat of paint on top wasn't necessary. The first coat was too streaky/thin for my liking, but after the second coat it was such a nice satin finish with no brush marks that I was very impressed. The main reason I tried milk paint for the first time was because I had heard it had no odor and

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not suitable for everything

This was the first time I've used General Finishes Milk Paint, but not the first time I've used their products. I was a bit skeptical as I've been a fan of chalk paint in the past but this milky paint is great. It's very thick out of the can, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it dries evenly and covers better than other thinner paints. The Lamp Black color is BEAUTIFUL and completely matte black, just what I was hoping for. I applied it with a slanted Wooster brush I had on hand and it…

Odorless and lasts great! No streaks visible, perfectly matt!

Obsessed with it. Firstly, no chemical smell, which is great because I don't want my family to inhale chemical ink. I painted the inside and it has no chemical smell or odor at all. It went smoothly! I used a special brush I borrowed from a friend, an Annie Sloan brush, and used it with this paint and it dried so perfectly you couldn't even see the lines. It looks professionally finished and I'm no pro. I didn't sand much at all, in my photo before how little I sanded, I basically didn't remove

good view Needs a little adjustment.

On another occasion I have used various General Finishing products including their "Milk" color. My previous experience was applied with a brush. I was happy with the results so I decided to try again but this time with a sprayer. I don't have a turbine, I use a pancake compressor with a large squirt gun. I was very happy with the product. It was very thick and I felt I had to thin it down to get decent spray coverage. This is a REAL matte product. I had a few issues after looping between…
