Great mailbox. You do not need the Gibraltar Patriot GMB225B Black Plastic Stainless Steel Mailbox Mounting Plate to mount this mailbox to a 4x4 horizontal post. My wife and I love the little yellow flag that notifies you when mail arrives. Why not all mailboxes come with it is beyond me. Highly recommended!

Bought to replace a smaller steel mailbox. Works as advertised. The postman likes it because it fits most packages and she doesn't have to go back and out of the car to deliver the package to the door. I like the flat, wide profile that's no taller than an old metal box but feels like it has twice the space for smaller packages. This is important in winter when DOT is clearing snow as there is less side load on the bar.

Have found that it doesn't necessarily need an extra bracket to attach to the wooden post of the post box. I think that's why it's not included. I bought this to replace an almost identical mailbox that had just worn out and been hit by vehicles on a number of occasions. Hit hard enough to deal some damage, it's not weak. Side flag snap-in mechanical parts are poorly made; it breaks easily. That was the case with previous designs, but with this design the door itself does not stay in the correct position if it breaks. I was able to fix this by inserting a short wood screw and digging it into the plastic and it's rock solid now. It is important to have self-adhesive numbers (3 inches high) and letters (2 inches) to apply to the mailbox and it is useful to apply them before installing the mailbox because then it's much easier.
