Once in your car's life you need to change this or it won't hold tension well and the serpentine belt may snap. That's exactly what happened to me. Bought this and a new belt; no problem now

Seems to be much more durable than the original spring compressor. There was some liquid around the hydraulic part, but I think it just came from production. Mine went into a 2004 BMW x3 2.5i and required a couple of screws that were not included. I think it depends on the car whether you can reuse old hardware. Just a warning though

Used on 2001 E46 325i. Good quality. It's 5 star stuff but hard to care for. The factory manual tensioners were still fine at 90,000 miles, but they felt worth it.
