I love this size vise and bought this pair to replace the one my brother in law 'borrowed'. My experience with this has shown that known brands work better than fakes.

I grew up with a Petersen Vise made near my home. Although Petersen was purchased from Irwin they appear to be of the same high quality. As far as I know, some of the production from China is repatriated to Nebraska.

Other brands have dropped in quality over the years but this one seems to have the same build quality as my old models from decades ago when the quality played a role. I needed this new one because it's small enough to do what I need it to do while the old ones are too big. I was concerned they would lower the quality like many other tool makers but to my relief it's still good.

This vise is extremely useful! I use them in almost every project I do at home (turning screws, etc.). I have always been impressed with the quality of Irwin tools in the past and this tool appears to be of good quality. These vices open and close very easily and hold tight. Thought it should be bigger. It was too small when I got it. It is too small for normal purposes. It is durable and well made. Sometimes pictures are misleading if you don't have a frame of reference, so compare the size with. For example with a quarter. The same problem happened to me in the past when I bought a computer mouse. It was so small that I didn't use it at all.
