I consider these hydraulic brakes entry level to mid level brakes. They work really well and they are not super expensive. They are a Great upgrade from any mechanical disk brakes I have had. An advantage of hydraulic brakes over mechanical brakes is that there's no need for constant adjustment due to wear of the pads or slipping/stretching brake cables. I know that it's possible to source it all for less money on your own. However, I just wanted something that is easy to swap - and this kit has met my expectations. Performance is really good, dependable braking on downhill rides. No noise. Very noticeable improvement over my previous set of Tektro mechanical disk brakes (and I'm not bashing the Tesktro brand, I'm sure they have some good models, but the ones that came with the bike were not).

These brakes are all most people are ever going to need if you are just a casual mountain biker keeping your speed reasonably low. I do ride a little bit of downhill and these brakes perform great and don't fade/overheat for what i use them for. I am on an old 26" wheel full suspension bike for some context. I got these to replace mechanical Shimano brakes. I swapped the front brake to the right lever as I am also an avid motorcyclist. Simple bleed and job done.If you have internal line routing on your bike you will need a bleed kit if you take apart the system.This kit included all the mounts needed for various rotor diameters. The few issues with these appear to be from user error, in sizing hoses, aligning and bedding in the pads. Most will be DIY'ers first time install with these Shimano's. If you never bled hyros before there will be a learning curve, so dont blame the brakes. I always bleed my new brakes, because I always trim the hoses length how I want them. Very happy with these brakes; but I feel the kit should include at least 1 line insert & 1 crimp olive for cutting line(s) to properly fit. I installed a 800mm & 1650mm set on my Schwinn Axum. Kit included ample hardware & brackets for my application; but making sure I had enough length for the rear set (going with 1650mm/rear) I need to shorten my hydraulic line quite a bit.
