Works best without lead

Lead free solders may need to be used for commercial products but they just don't work well enough to satisfy me. This solder melts at a low temperature so I don't have to worry about damaging fragile components. It flows easily, leaving a shiny, well-formed seam.

Kester 60/37 Lot is more expensive but worth it

I bought 3 different rolls of Chinese Lot and all 3 were terrible. I will never skimp on solder again. The cost of 3 is roughly the same as the cost of 1 roll of Kester. In the future I will buy Kester brand solder every time I need solder for my hobby. There is no comparison in solder joint quality with Kester which is vastly superior in quality, strength, fusibility and distribution.

Worth the extra money

I used the cheapest solder I could find until I got instructions from an electronics teacher using good quality Kester solder. The difference is huge. I had a cheap solder with Chinese writing and tried Kester and the ease of use was very noticeable. This material melts more easily, flows where it needs to go, and doesn't form awkward spots with tails. I thought I'm doing something wrong and end up with ugly solder joints. Turns out crappy solder makes crappy connections. Kester solder (in the…

The best solder for welding and soldering

I have a project with almost 500 hundreds of LEDs that require thousands of connections. The difference between Kester solder and cheaper Chinese solder is obvious. Cheap solder was more difficult to work with and left butt joints. The Kester solder was much easier to work with, flowed more easily and left bright, shiny connections even after reflow. I remember using this solder decades ago and forgetting about it. Now that I've gotten back to my passion for electronics, using this solder is a…

GREAT SOLDER, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED

Kester 44 Rosin Core Solder 63/37 .020 1 lb. To attempt. So far I've only used Radioshack Silver Bearing Lot 62/36/2. Having used this Kester 63/37 all I can say is this solder is amazing! Perfect for all my projects. I work a lot with SMD and IC and this solder works very well. I can't see much of a difference between this and the silver stock and will be using this solder from now on. Don't hesitate to buy this product, you won't be disappointed!

Pros
  • Ideal for a small house
Cons
  • Some bugs

Kester solder is the best

Works great on all my small home soldering projects. I've used it on circuit boards and for connecting wires and it melts and flows great. I chose 63/37 solder because 63/37 solder is 63% tin and 37% lead. It has a melting point of 183°C, slightly lower than the more common 60/40 mix. Eutectic solders like 63/37 are easier to work with because they don't have a semi-solid point when melted like 60/40 solder. It's well worth the slightly higher cost if you're working with sensitive electronics…

This is the best in welding and soldering

After years of trying to solder a joint, I've upgraded my gear from a $20 kit you can get at hardware stores to a Hakko kit upgraded. But I still didn't change my solder until a friend who works in electronics told me to get this coil. Although the price is high, if you don't solder often, believe me, it's worth 100 times more. I went from barely being able to connect to feeling like a pro. I salvaged a melted engine wiring harness that I had to cut off and reuse almost every connector because…
