Kidde Hardwired Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector with Battery Backup & Voice Alert - Interconnect Combination Alarm Review

I bought this Kidde alarm clock to replace a Kidde alarm clock that broke after only three years. Just a year later it failed again, ie kept working in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. I've vacuumed the alarm repeatedly to ensure dust isn't causing false alarms and changed the 9 volt battery several times to no avail. I will not buy another Kidde product.

I installed them last week. It was the first time I had smoke detectors with carbon monoxide detection. After a week of normal operation, it started at 4 a.m. today. I turned them off manually and they went off again. I called the fire department who arrived with a portable carbon monoxide detector and confirmed that our water heater was not working and was spewing out lethal levels of carbon monoxide. The gas company has shut down our boiler and we are waiting for service. It saved our lives.

Two of these failed in just under three years, only a few months apart. Everyone had battery corrosion on the same connector. They had original Kidde batteries. I bought these to replace my Kidde Wired Combo Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Alarms. I checked the Kidde site to make sure it's the current replacement for the KN-COSM-IB model. I bought two packs of 1 and one pack of 6. Each came with a set of batteries, bracket, cables and installation instructions. I only needed the batteries as they are direct replacements.
