I've been using this product for a few weeks and am very happy with its performance. I've only had issues with my internal DVD burner, but so far LaCie has been reliable and easy to use. I haven't tried the Lightscribe feature yet.

SuperDrive died on my iMac and Apple charged $$$ to replace it. I brought this external drive and it works great and is faster than the original SuperDrive. When my hard drive failed, I was actually able to boot from that external hard drive and recover my system. If I had to do it again I might not use the Lightscribe feature as I don't use it as often as I thought I would.

This product is advertised as compatible with Mac but is only compatible at the most basic level. It burns DVDs perfectly, is pretty fast, and (mostly) reliable. But the Lightscribe feature I actually bought it for doesn't work, at least not with Mac OS 10.6.2 on my Macbook Pro. I've spent hours downloading and re-downloading software and drivers to no avail. Anyone interested, especially LaCie, should check the information on the web about this product. There seems to be two versions of this recorder, one for PC and one for PC or Mac. Both versions have the same model number - both are d2 models, and the PC version has product codes 301483U and 301484U for both operating systems. 22X Speed? Well, for me it's more than 5.5x picking (audio cd reading, iTunes import). So I'm not very happy as I have to import hundreds of CDs. This will take weeks! The installation process is amazing. It's just speed.
