In their video, they show the arm stretched horizontally, but you can stretch your arm diagonally down. it is wide open to reach down. I have been using this mailbox for over a year and there are a few things to note. First, the paint is peeling off most of the outside edges, sides, front and bottom. Although it is negligible at the moment, it will soon start to flake off completely. For a box that advertises it can withstand the elements, the color doesn't seem to do the trick. Really 4 1/2 stars. When I opened the box today, my first impression was: a large, sturdy, attractive mailbox. I already had a very strong metal frame with a square metal plate with 4 holes. They didn't line up with the base holes so I had to drill 4 new holes. Strong metal! Went to the hardware store to buy 4 zinc plated carriage bolts.
