Ideal for spares

The starter arrived quickly. Fits like it should on my 1999 Mercrusier 3.0. Spin the engine when you are finished with the installation.

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Not bad

Defective starter at Starters & Parts

Unfortunately, it turned out that the starter was defective. The shop took longer to get to my boat and when they did the starter didn't work. Now the time to return is over.

Pros
  • Top marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Unfashionable

Not the best part!

Only worked a few weeks then burned out. He started smoking because of the solenoid, and for some reason the filament wore out. Not the best part for the aftermarket. Towing cost me 400 on the lake that day.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Not the best

Buy a guarantee and don't get it wet.

I had a small leak in the shift cable which caused the bilge to fill up. My starter got wet, now it doesn't work anymore. I need to buy another starter. I tested it and they couldn't get it to work. It was a waste of money.

Pros
  • Large fit for me
Cons
  • No instructions

Easy job, about 45 minutes of slow work

Screwed directly onto a Mercruiser 3.0 on my 2003 Bayliner 175. Easy work, about 45 minutes of slow work. Marina wanted 300+ for work, she's glad she did it herself. We'll see how long it lasts, but even if it's once a year, the cheap price is worth it. Please note this does not come with screws. Bought new screws in Autozone.

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Very expensive
