DO NOT BUY THIS RECEIVER LOCK!

I thought this receiver lock would be easier to use with the 90 degree locking mechanism, but after installing the receiver lock I couldn't unlock it with the key provided. I tried unlocking it with Graphite but it didn't help. I ended up breaking the key in the lock, which luckily managed to get the broken part of the key out. Cheap locking mechanism and cheap metal keys. Now I need to figure out how to remove the POS from my hitch.

Don't buy horror. Failed in less than a year.

Please do not buy this lock. Mine broke in less than 1 year. I oiled this lock at least once a month to keep it working properly. In the morning before I left for my trek I wanted to unlock it to plug in my van and the lock was completely frozen. It was so bad I had to go to a locksmith to have it drilled out. The locksmith said he had seen it in this lock style many times before. He explained that the rear spring that allows the locking mechanism to lock the pin has failed. No matter how muchโ€ฆ

Junk, key broke and had to be cut off (very easy)

I installed this on my truck first and hoped it would last forever as I always have a receiver. I usually leave the 2" bullet, but recently I had to swap out the receiver for a smaller one, so I had to remove that receiver lock. It has been fitted for 1.5 years and has always had a protective rubber cover covering the lock. When I first removed the receiver's rubber cover I was happy to see that the lock wasn't rusty and the key went in smoothly, but the locking mechanism didn't move and withโ€ฆ

Corrosion inevitable

So I bought this lock and used it for a while until I had to take it off and found it was so rusted and rusted that I had to break it to take it off. No problem. I casually wore the rubber boot covering the keyhole and witnessed the user's failure. So I ordered a second one and this time made sure that the protective cover stays on for the entire period of use. Had it on for about 6 months, removed the trunk to open it and the key wouldn't go in. The pens are frozen. I had to spray aโ€ฆ

Not at all weatherproof

I bought this product for my Silverado 1500 so I can always leave my hitch in the receiver because I tow a lot. I live in New England and wanted a weather resistant stainless steel version to prevent winter corrosion issues. After buying this lock I had to buy another one because the lock cylinder was corroded and stuck causing it to break. the key is in. I had to drill out the lock cylinder on both this one and the second one I bought because they each got stuck after about six months. On theโ€ฆ

Two of them quickly rusted to the point where the key didn't fit

Just a warning I had two of these rusted to the point where the key wasn't accepted very quickly. I installed a bumper/rear step on my 4Runner that is supported by a hitch and I wanted it to be anti-theft. The locksmith said that the first time it was given how new it was at the time someone must have super glued it on! I couldn't believe it, but since he's a pro and he was only 6 months old at the time, I ordered another one. Since then I've moved to another city and in fact it's frozen andโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • I don't remember

This product is terrible, firstly it was difficult to attach to my car when using the trailer hitch. Second, I bought this product in late March 2018 and when I went to remove it and change the ball on my truck, the lock was covered in corrosion. I blew the lock out with compressed air and then tried to push the key in but it was very, very difficult to get the key all the way in and when I finally put it in it would not turn. Then I went and bought some triple spray lube and sprayed it onโ€ฆ

Pros
  • High test results for grip and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options

Junk, unworthy of the lock owner

Good. Bought this to replace a steel locking pin (the lock still worked perfectly thanks to the good rubber coating!) that was corroded and had to be knocked out. Patterned.Stainless steel, Master Lock.Good combination, right? Not correct! Chinese trash! The pin is made of stainless steel, the rest looks like aluminum. I haven't even installed it yet, but here's what I've found so far; The buttons did not work smoothly. In fact, the first 40 or so uses (yes, I poked around the lock and key 40โ€ฆ

Works as well as any hitch lock but will hold up through the winter

I bought this lock last spring to fit an aluminum hitch on my 2017 Toyota Tacoma. I like to leave it on to protect the bumper from damage in parking lots. This will eventually lead to corrosion, but this is not the fault of the product. Anytime dissimilar metals (stainless steel, aluminium, mild steel) come into contact in a salty environment, corrosion/rusting etc will occur so you need to be aware of what you are entering. If you have a Toyota, the standard length receiver lock will not work.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
