I was taught in welding courses that the gusset should be a right triangle that fully touches the horizontal and vertical elements of the workpieces to be welded. This receiver is well made. That is, welded. An unavoidable problem is the angle at which it is welded. The designer clearly did not think about the backlash that occurs when inserting one tube into another. This tilt allows the tube to tilt backwards. When you insert this tube into the receiver coupler it tilts down a bit, then insert the second tube into the drop down receiver and it also tilts down.
