Motorola SURFboard SB5120 for Cox Cable Internet

I received this Motorola SURFboard SB5120 cable modem for use with Cox Cable Internet. I didn't want to buy it from Cox and instead looked for a used one from Revain and bought it for $19. And it works fine. I connected it to a Netgear wireless router. It all works great whether I'm connecting via an Ethernet cable for a wired connection or via Wi-Fi for a wireless connection. When I spoke to people at Cox 800 to give them the serial numbers of this cable modem, they had to make sure the cable…

Pros
  • As always

A MUST HAVE for regular Time Warner NYC internet users!

I almost went and bought everything TimeWarner had on their website that was "suitable" or "recommended" for their service, which cost about $70-$120 , which I found very uncomfortable. So I spent quite a bit of time researching what I have and what I really need, that's all! This is exactly what I wanted for the average user (I consider myself a power user who sits at the computer a lot). After some research, all I needed was a carefully used modem that works for a Time Warner Cable (TWCrook)…

Pros
  • Always liked
Cons
  • It drives me crazy

I'm a former DSL user who has never used high speed cable Internet, so I can't tell you how this modem compares to other models, nor can other customer reviews. But this one has worked well for me so far. Just plug it in and run the Comcast Self-Install CD, which primed the modem without calling Comcast. After about 10 minutes I was connected to the internet (I had to restart the computer once). Much faster than my old DSL. And I like its thin profile, although it appears to only be designed…

Performance Champion

I bought the SB5120 when I unsubscribed from AT&T's DSL service and decided to go with Comcast Cable Internet. The SB5120 leverages Comcast's reliable data rates with full compatibility. Our home network uses Mac computers. Our HP printer is connected to a modem with an Ethernet cable. The modem supports a network backup drive via a USB connection. This replacement hard drive has not yet been installed. The installation instructions must be repeated carefully. I found them incomplete and not…

Seems to work! - Modems

As long as I'm a techie (and by techie I mean I work professionally in IT, not one of those pretentious amateurs that people like to talk about they are "smart"), I'm not techie enough to advertise how he polishes my packets as they go through, or how he convinced the Fed to lower the signal-to-noise ratio on my link. What I can tell you is that my cable ISP provided the SB5100 and it worked fine. The problem was they charged me $5 a month for "rent". So I bought this SB5120. what about my line

Pros
  • Top marks for support and longevity from testers
Cons
  • I won't say anything
