Disappointment with the best sports water bottle

I am incredibly disappointed with the Nalgene brand in this bottle and I am a long time Nalgene user. The latch requires brute force, sometimes with both hands, to close and latch. I bought these for my active 5 year old because I trusted the Nalgene brand for materials and durability. But they can hardly use them alone. And I have arthritis, so I'm not much better off with the lid and lock on. We will look for alternative products for our needs.

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Some little things

1 of 4 designs developed: Bottles/Caps in use for almost 5 years

I have been using these bottles/caps for almost 5 years. I love how quick and easy it opens and closes. And I plan to use it for many years to come. I have 4 of these caps/bottles but I am sorry to say that one of the caps has developed a small mold on the rubber part of the cap (see attachment). The mold is on the surface of the rubber and cannot be removed. Any dark brown or black spots are mold. I shall have to write off this cap; but I plan to buy another one because it's good for me and…

My Go-To Non-Sport Water Bottle

This is the third Nalgene On the Fly water bottle I've bought - it's my favorite travel, bed and water bottle you've ever had can take with you in your car. The small spout makes it easy to drink without making a mess, the clear plastic reassures me I'm not drinking poison, and the lid is easy to open (push the button!) and close (push it). I'm giving it four stars because you MUST secure the cap by pushing up on the steel tab above the button to prevent accidental opening of a tightly capped…

OTF Top - how long does it take for the little plastic tab to break off?

I love Nalgene bottles, have bought a dozen or more over the years. This is my first case with an OTF (on the fly) cover and I doubt its durability. 3 weeks since purchase everything was fine but I'm worried. There is a small plastic tab that keeps it closed. The tab looks like it could easily be snapped off. Then the only way to keep it closed is to use the wire tie that goes around the top clasp. It works, but it's a little awkward to put on and take off. As I was preparing to write this…

Will buy again and again

I don't know how many of these bottles I've bought. Many of them. I have to replace the ones I have from time to time because people keep taking them because they love them so much. I have had many plastic water bottles and this is by far my favorite. The hole is the perfect size for swallowing without spilling when moving. The size holds the perfect amount of water. The cap is so handy and I'm thankful for it every time I drop my bottle. I've had it open once but considering I've been using…

  • Sturdy construction

  • Poor instructions

Bad cap function for sports water bottles

The bottle is fine. Medium thickness and medium volume plastic (650ml, I would prefer 750ml). Around the same time, I bought several similar bottles of different sizes and brands for comparison, and this was my least favorite. The main problem is the lid latch. In order for it to lock, you have to press it very hard. So if you're running, for example, you'll end up burning more calories trying to latch the lid than you actually do, especially if you're running. They don't have a hard surface…

The locking mechanism could be more secure

My husband got me to buy a new water bottle after my last two started smelling and the locking mechanism broke. I wanted one that shields the mouthpiece from the environment, has a large opening at the top, and has a comfortable pen/finger grip. He was a fan of Nalgene so I tried this one. All in all, it fits the bill. After a few months of use my 2 biggest complaints are that I wanted to get fuzzy and that the locking mechanism isn't the most reliable. I'm easily distracted by the occasional…

I love the water bottle

I love the water bottle, it's easy to hold with one hand and doesn't leak. However, as many reviewers have noted, the rubber in the lid became slightly moldy. If you're not in the mood to clean your water bottle EVERY day after use, I wouldn't recommend it. Yes you can replace the cap but the whole point of buying a water bottle is I want it to be green the cap is plastic and if I have to replace it once or more a year there is nothing green in it. I did some research and read a few reviews…

The perfect all-purpose water bottle

The best all-purpose water bottle on the market. I have tried a variety of water bottles from Nalgene and many other companies. While many of them are good, this bottle of Nalgene On The Fly was the first time I immediately bought additional accessories in different colors. For me, the greatest aspect of a water bottle is how easy it is to actually get water from the bottle into your mouth. . Some bottles require a little squeezing, others require you to hold fully upright, some pour no matter…
