Trusted Center: Networking Products

Netgear DS108 is old technology and it has its advantages. The DS108 is a hub, meaning traffic on one port appears on all ports. When troubleshooting a network, it's easy to spy on network traffic to identify the computer that's causing problems. While the performance of a hub doesn't always match that of a switch, the benefits of network debugging are worth it.

Pros
  • Pleasant
Cons
  • Long Wait

Great for troubleshooting

This hub was needed to capture Wireshark packets to solve VoIP and data network problems in the lab. Inexpensive enough to buy yourself and keep in your tool box.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Worked great for about 10 years.

. I had to open the case once when the heatsink detached from the main processor and was dangling inside the case, but I took the heatsink out and never replaced it. I replaced it with a new Linksys 10/100 switch and wondered if it would last that long.

Pros
  • . Good product for the price.
Cons
  • . Communication with the seller.

It turns itself off every 20 minutes for no apparent reason

in my office on four such hubs. Everyone had the same problem. After about 20 minutes I lose my network connection. To fix this I have to unplug and plug the ethernet cable back in. It's easy to fix, but it's bloody annoying having to do this every 20 minutes, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. When you connect to your work computer remotely, like me, you rely on this persistent connection to do so. What a nasty surprise when you try to connect to this computer and find that it's disabled because of

shiny durable hub

Net Gear is owned by Bay Networks who don't make crappy gear. Transfer rate and view who is connecting at 10 or 100 Mbps. We use it to share an internet connection (Adelphia two-way cable) between 6 PCs along with files and printing. So far no problems. This hub easily handles the standard job of a hub and has a useful aesthetic quality that you won't see in 3com's white plastic. 3Coms is trying to disguise its hub as an external modem - why?

Pros
  • delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Needed more ports in networking products

You already have two Netgear DS104 4 port dual speed hubs but need more ports in one so this 8 port replacement worked great

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Modern
