Description of 🍲 Enhance Your Culinary Skills with the New Star Foodservice 42566 3-Piece Stainless Steel China Cap Strainer Set

Great for straining sauces and soups or mashing fruits and vegetables. 3-piece set includes an 18/8 stainless-steel 7" fine mesh chinois, a wooden pestle, and a chrome stand. Strainer features a fine mesh and an assist handle that allows it to rest in pots and large bowls. Place strainer in handy chrome stand while using pestle to press food through mesh. Allows for sieving good stocks and broths, mashing berries for compotes, ridding fresh squash from its excess water, and more.

Terrible mismatch between the two components

Wooden pestles do not fit in a sieve. Was completely useless as a strainer for applesauce, which is what I ordered it for. Due to the vertical protrusion at the top of the strainer/strainer, the wooden pestle cannot sit flush with the inside of the strainer. This way there is a gap between the ram and the screen and you cannot push down any material you are trying to pass through the screen. Waste of time ordering one if you plan on using a plunger to strain (that's why you usually buy a…

Pros
  • Large selection
Cons
  • Expensive insurance

Not recommended for serious canners.

I expected more for the price. The Chinua itself is made of durable material, but the stand and handle are of poor quality and construction. The stand is wobbly and unstable. The handle is a loop-shaped strip of metal with sharp edges. Perhaps the worst feature of this set is the wooden pestle. It doesn't fit the Chinese style. The design is such that the ram does not touch the sides during rotation. I found it works better upside down. If I hadn't been up to my neck in the tomatoes to be…

Suitable for what I bought it for

Now that I have it, I'll probably use it for things I never knew I needed, but actually I have it Bought to process Lilicoy Juice. When the season comes we have hundreds left so we juice them and freeze the juice to use year round. Lilikoi must be separated from seeds and membrane. Both cause headaches. The filters work but are difficult to clean. Blenders can break everything apart, but you'll also end up with small bits of seed slipping through. With these chinois we could go through…

Not as good as hoped, but it works.

My wife uses chinoa (I call it a strainer, but oh well) quite a bit because she grinds apples for her wonderful applesauce. The one we always had on a rivet was broken, and without traveling repairmen, Revain was the only place I could find one. biggest concern. I guess we use ours a lot more than most people, so maybe our usage level contributes to that, but there are a few rough spots inside the screen that cause minor cracks and wear on the maple ram, and the ram doesn't rotate around that…

Pros
  • Nice
Cons
  • Good, but not great

I purchased a New Star Foodservice 42566 China Cap/Chinois Strainer to extract the juice from several gallons of elderberries and immediately noticed a significant deficiency in the first batch of berries. The cone of the wooden pestle is too small. When the tamper is in the strainer, the top of the cone is about 1/4 inch from the side of the strainer screen. As a result, the ram pushes the berries up and not against the grid. If the ram were designed with a top surface about 1/4 inch wider…
