You have to get past that. Bad design.

Come on Orico! Toolless doesn't mean you don't need to protect the drive! The hard drive literally pops into the slot and that's all it holds in place. Any bump and the drive slips out instantly. I hate that. To make matters worse, on/off is a button, not a switch. Thus, in the event of a power failure, it does not remember its previous state. If you use this as an add-on to your NAS, any power failure will NOT turn this item on until you press the power button again. It's cheap in every way…

Works perfectly! under Hard Drive Accessories

I had an external drive that couldn't stay connected. I thought it was a USB controller and I could hack this case and put a drive in it. As soon as I opened the manufacturer's case, I found that the drive was too hot to hold! I thought maybe it was just overheating but when I used the original control board without the case it still shut down. When I put the drive in this case, I found an unformatted drive with no partitions. The original controller is encrypted or uses special formatting on…

Nice case/dock for $20

EDIT: This is for the ORICO 3588US3 model I bought, not any other (it appears on the SATA III UASP model and who knows where else , and SHOULD NOT. This is a completely different product.) Pros: 1. Works very well (so far). With my old Seagate 7200 ST3320418AS connected to the USB3 port, the transfer speed of a large file to and from is around 110MB/s. Faster than ever when installed in a PC. I get about 50 MB/s on the USB2 port. It's as simple as it gets. Insert a floppy disk, plug it in…

Overheats quickly Best in hard drive cases

This unit has potential if the manufacturer makes some much needed improvements. Two positives first: 1) This device has a decently thick shell which seems to be durable in the long run 2) Easy to use, tool-less design and easy connection with no virus installation required (in Windows 7). Why am I rating this 1 star now? The main disadvantage of the design, this device has no ventilation. It's advertised as supporting both HDD and SSD, but with a thick plastic case and no ventilation, the…

worked fine. about a month

This case completely let me down just a few weeks before the Revain return window. Contact the manufacturer but don't expect too much of my money back and don't send a piece of plastic to China for a new one that MIGHT work, probably at my expense if I need an enclosure for this drive now . Pros: Extremely easy to set up. Just insert the drive, plug it in, turn it on and you're good to go. Cons: As said, you literally just stick the drive in place. That means nothing but the pin headers…

Good product, one problem

I bought two of these, each was easy to assemble but each arrived with a weird looking cable: the computer end had a standard USB-A connector; At the end of the housing was a connector I'd never seen before: it looked like an old-style USB Type-B connector, but with an extra "lobe" at the top. I installed two SATA hard drives and connected both enclosures to my computers. USB2.0 ports. None of them were recognized by Windows. Now ORICO lists USB3.0 and doesn't mention USB2.0 compatibility so…

Comparing Inateck and Orico Enclosures

I recently upgraded the drives in my Synology NAS and wanted to put my old WD Red drives in the enclosures to use as backup drives. I looked at several cases on Revain and ended up buying Inateck and Orico cases. Both cases are well made and work perfectly. In this review, I will highlight the differences in their main features. I hope this helps some people deciding between these devices. The Orico body is made of molded plastic and is extremely easy to install without tools. Installing the…

Easiest to Install 3.5 " External Hard Drive Enclosure

This is the easiest 3.5" external hard drive enclosure I've ever owned. into place, then slide the top cover back until it snaps into place. No tools required as there are no screws. It comes with a power adapter and a USB 3.0 cable. I have a Western Digital Caviar Green 3TB drive installed and my computer is running Windows 7 Ultimate. When I connected the ORICO case to the PC, there was a slight delay while Windows searched the driver cache and installed the hard drive, after which it…

Great 3.5 inch body

I bought this product hoping to be able to access files from my five year old desktop that died almost two years ago. At first I was reluctant to try it because I thought the hard drive in the PC had failed and I was wasting my money. I was pleasantly surprised by Orico's 3.5 inch hard drive enclosure. USB 3.0 cable, Chinese and English user manual and two foam strips. I believe they require an external power supply due to the 3.5" drive. The 2.5-inch drive in the case does not require external
