Description of Pfister 9740420: High-Performance Pressure Balanced Valve Cartridge Sub Assembly

Plastic. Imported. This OEM (original equipment manufacturer) pressure balance cartridge 974-042 can be used with 0X8, VB8, JV8, and JX8 valve assemblies. This cartridge features ceramic disc technology and can be used with ONLY legacy versions of the 0X8 series tub and shower trim. The newer version of the 0X8, VB8, JV8, and JX8 valve bodies that uses the 974-321 or 974-322 cartridge will NOT be compatible due to a shallow casted rough-in valve. Made with advanced ceramic disc valve technology. Genuine Pfister Part. Sold individually. This cartridge can be used as a replacement for the older two-piece models illustrated in the line drawing.

There was no hot water in the shower

Our shower had intermittent hot water, we replaced the old valve with this one and it solved our problem. Much cheaper than plumbing and very easy to install, only takes about 10 minutes. I turned off the main faucet to the house, removed the shower handle and then removed the decorative panel and then removed the four screws in the old valve that just popped out. I entered a new value and reused the metal disc from the old valve. Now it works great.

Works great. Easy DIY project.

Hard water shortens the life of these valves. This is the second one I've replaced, no problem. Here's what I did to replace it: 1) Shut off the water to the house. 2) Before disassembling the flow control valve, turn it on to release the residual pressure. 3) Replace the defective unit with a new one. last thought Be sure to inspect the valve body before inserting the new valve assembly. I have noticed that the old o-rings are sticking to the inside of the case. Use needle nose pliers to…

Ideal replacement

I have intentionally put this review on hold to see if there are any issues with this replacement part. I hesitated to make this purchase as I couldn't get my hands on it like in big stores. I valued and relied on those who provided similar feedback before settling on this one. So far this has worked perfectly and I have no reason to believe anything will happen. It was the perfect replacement for the worn original valve. I hope this review helps others in their purchasing decision for this…

Tip: Adjust the temperature limiting ring before final assembly.

Does its job. I'm not a big fan of the flexibility of the plastic construction. It just doesn't seem to last as long as the old cartridge it replaced. Also, be sure to adjust the temperature limit ring before completing the assembly. The black ring around the shaft is easy to pull out with needle nose pliers applied to the small tab on the inside of the ring. Turn the restriction ring counter-clockwise to increase the maximum temperature and clockwise to decrease it. By default, my setup was…

Good replacement for the two piece valve

Before ordering a replacement I turned off the water and opened the valve to see what was inside. We had an old two piece design (971-250 + 974-291). The water was slowly seeping out of the control stem and while I'm pretty sure the valve stem would solve the problem, the o-rings on the other part were pretty worn. I chose to order this rather than pay more to have both parts replaced. The solution was quick and easy and has worked well so far. Doesn't drip, spins nice and evenly. The only…

Better than newer model/Mejor que el modelo mas adelantado

I recommend this model over the newer model due to the fact that the newer model is in two parts and the space between these two parts is a special case). Water turbulence resulting in a very annoying high frequency whistle and a long term increase in my water bill. In short, don't buy a newer model. Yo recomiendo este modelo de cart en comparación al modelo mas adelantado ya que el modelo nuevo se compone de dos partes y el espacio entre las partes generaba (especially en mi caso) una…

if you have old design 2 pcs.

experience of a person. I have an old 2 piece tub/shower faucet. After about 10 > 15 years the water flow could not be shut off (i.e. leaking in the "off" position. When I could not find an exact replacement part I called the price fister and was told that they had the design of 2 have removed parts but there was a new one piece design (974-042) which was a direct replacement. The one piece design failed after about 3 years due to excessive rotational force. Replaced with another one piece…

Fixed my dripping faucet

The bathtub faucet in one of my bathrooms started dripping slowly and annoyingly after 10 years. I took the faucet apart looking for a bad o-ring, a cracked part, or something else. Everything looked fine to my unprepared amateur eye. I even used CLR for all parts as google told me that might be causing the leak. In the end I decided to just replace the whole cartridge as a last resort before calling the plumber. I couldn't find the ones I need in any of the national hardware chains where I…

This cartridge from Price Pfister did a great job. We didn't get hot water

This price The Pfister cartridge has proven itself. We didn't have hot water, at least not all the time and not for very long. This is a single block as opposed to the older two piece blocks. Please make sure you know which unit you have by the part number before ordering. Just turn off the water supply, open all the faucets in the house to drain the water and replace it. When taking apart an old block, make sure to shut off the drain if you drop screws. Just pay attention to the position of…
