Beautiful box. It replaces a separate DVD player and VHS player and can also burn DVDs. It has a built in digital tuner and converts whatever is playing to the resolution of the TV. It has a digital output (HDMI) for connection to a TV. In my application I use my house antenna tuner to receive off air digital broadcasts and the cable input goes straight to the TV. Bought 2 used, dad and me. The main advantages were a digital tuner and the ability to record to VHS or disc. Dad's DVD would not open at all and had to be sent back for a replacement but had to fight hard with a company that claimed to have 'fixed' it. Now my VCR is not working. I bought this for my parents whose analog VCR will soon stop receiving a signal. The setup screens look easy to use. In fact, it looks just like our Toshiba DR560 1080p upconverted DVD recorder with built-in tuner. They are probably using the same software provider. The tuner is digital but not HD.
