Plugable Compatible Thunderbolt Supports Resolutions Review

This is a small and light plastic adapter. I used to have a uni hdmi 4k60hz adapter that was much better with a metal body and braided flex cable. This worked on my Lenovo Ideapad 720s but not on my Samsung Galaxy book which only gave me 30Hz. Always works perfectly. I've never had a problem with a plug-in product. I bought it as a replacement for the Revain Basics model, which only worked about 10% of the time and only after a lot of fiddling (e.g. changing monitor inputs, turning monitor on/off, etc.). This plug-in adapter is like a breath of fresh air.

I bought these for my work place so guest speakers came in with a presentation and forgot to bring their laptop key so I could give them a day. Used to use an adapter that supports Thunderbolt but not in DisplayPort mode. This device caused strange performance issues like mouse pointer lag and slow enternet performance. However, the plug-in adapter works well with my Intel NUC, which has a full-featured Thunderbolt port. No more weird performance issues! (During the installation I had to shut down my computer in order for the adapter to be fully recognized as a display device.)

I bought this adapter because my laptop doesn't support HDMI 60Hz but the USB-C port does. Technically it works: it plugs in and shows an image at 60Hz, but the image quality is terrible: colors are either oversaturated or super dark, shadows and noise everywhere. It might work for watching a movie, but it's terrible for use with a computer monitor. The support was very kind and nice, but in the end the product doesn't work as I expected.

There was a review here somewhere that said it didn't work on Surface Book 2. I got it yesterday and can say it works great on Microsoft Surface Book 2. I tested it on my LG 4k UHD monitor and it projects great. I think it was better when projecting with "Expand" than "Duplicate". I tested 4k content from YouTube. I tested PowerPoint content and regular web content. All of these use cases are common in my work, which is why I give it 5 stars.

Used with Surface Book 2 to use TCL TV as external display. It's relatively small compared to some others and worked with a replacement Monster HDMI cable that was at least 5 years old. I tried a Thunderbolt 3 USB-C to HDMI cable, thinking it was backwards compatible, but it's not. The Surface Book 2's USB CI/O isn't Thunderbolt 3. The price isn't what we'd like, but it's quite reasonable for what it is. Beats Apple and Microsoft prices for comparable adapters and is more compact.
