Used as a pre-filter on the HOB inlet. Very easy to cut and attach with a zipper. I removed a lot of dirt from my driftwood so my cartridges lasted MUCH longer. After a month of use (replaced once or twice a week) the new gasket sections started throwing small bits of plastic into my tank that my cartridge couldn't accommodate. I had an issue with the thinner seal, it let particles float in the water and tiny bits of plastic I found while cleaning and the particles stuck to mine Fishing. I called the company and they said it could be my Fluval FX4 turning on and off and worried about what is sticking to the hoses. Which made sense because I use it on my eheim 350 and haven't had any issues. They recommend me to buy this pad to see if it clears. I've tried it but it hasn't made my fish or water any better…

I bought a 100 micron pad to reduce the flow a bit and clean the water. All your filters cannot catch the smallest particles, so you must use this mat.
