I've been in the business for over 50 years and I've never owned snap ring pliers. I needed to replace my band saw belt. The wheel was held by a clamp, and although I tried every pair of pliers I had, I couldn't get the clamp loose. Circlip pliers got the job done in no time. It was a fairly tight clamp, but there were no problems with these pliers. They are individually wrapped and oil protected. Each is well lubricated for rust protection. I think they are good value for money and they will be with me for the rest of my life. I recommend them.

I bought a pair of universal slip ring pliers a few years ago. While this works, it's really only good for smaller/lighter retaining rings. Bought this set (decent reviews although still one of the cheaper sets). and i am very happy with the purchase. They're a bit stiff, but nothing more than a little use will clear them up. They are solidly built and work great with the rings I took off. smaller locking rings, but then I just break out the universal kit

There are many things that can be picked up with chopsticks, but retaining rings (especially strong ones) are not one of them. As you can see from the close-up photos of the tips (all four tools are the same design), there are no burrs on the ends. I haven't used snap ring pliers in a long time, but the last time I used a set they ended up flaring. A flash is needed to pull out the ring after it has expanded.
