Not very reliable. in car electronics

Received as a gift. It's not as user friendly and feels a lot less reliable than my Garmin (it was over 6 years old). I wouldn't buy one. It keeps losing GPS connection, misleading us and too complicated to download trips and do it right. Buyer warning!

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Not everything fits

Not comfortable! in Car Video

I recently purchased this item after my Garmin became obsolete and unable to update, despite purchasing a 'lifetime' update subscription! :( Rand McNally Advanced Explorer 5 was bought on a trip and was too complicated to use. I've been using it since I got home and I find it less user friendly. I want something that's easy to navigate and provides basic information how to get from one place to another with relevant information.

Pros
  • Quality Construction
Cons
  • Great Price

Disappointingly good for automotive electronics

Very bulky device. The controls aren't user-friendly, the interface isn't intuitive, and on top of that the touchscreen is extremely unresponsive for those used to the simple tap and scroll on a smartphone. You practically have to press the screen for it to register. And those who are spoiled by the usability of Google Maps and Waze will be particularly disappointed by the annoying destination input. As I write this, I'm trying to convince this device that we're not in Chicago, we're inโ€ฆ

Don't worry!: Car electronics

I bought this device to travel to Canada tomorrow. I can't enter a destination address and can't contact anyone who wants/can help. I'm sending this junk back in hopes of finding something that actually works. Terrible product, terrible customer service. I was on hold for literally an hour and when I reached someone they informed me that they can only help people associated with the company and not private clients. This is all a joke. I even thought I could connect via a USB cable to maybeโ€ฆ

Good salesman ! About Automotive & Automotive Electronics

Have another Rand Mcnally 7 Explorer, works well and has decent GPS - NOT suitable for my age range or issues. Much of it is amateur quality and obviously intended for truckers avoiding hard "car" turns. MANY locations on the map are missing. I am diabetic and have problems with Eyesite, even the 7 inch screen has a poor choice of colors and fonts. And with bad POIs, truck mods and similar GPS with VOICE and BLUETOOTH. I returned to Turk Loving Garmin. The unit does the job and is a decentโ€ฆ

  • Absolute Legend

  • Crumpled Packaging

Whimsical But Powerful: Read Below

This device is highly customizable. Of course, the UI issues are essentially correct. However, with a little patience and research, you'll figure out what this thing is capable of (think Windows and Mac). The learning curve for this is not long - just give it a try. RM has a unique (quirky) way of doing things. Not bad, just different. I bought mine on sale at Walmart for $59 (10/6/2019) after returning the Garmin 51 LM-ex (a really flimsy device at twice the price). This device is better. Youโ€ฆ
