Do not buy! Best in Category Spare Tire Holder

Installed on my 04 Rubicon. Installation took about 15 minutes. I have already removed the standard tire holder. Looks great. Holds a 35" tire perfectly. The door opens softly. Update: It ripped my tub apart after a year. I wouldn't buy.

Great space for a large spare tire (33 " in my case)

After using a luggage rack for 10 years and realizing it was destroying my rear cross member made this change. Removing the old fasteners was the hardest part of the install. It's so durable and being able to see in the rearview mirror was a bonus. Couldn't be happier!

Well built, easy to assemble, but the tire holder sticks out too much for me.

Very robust, screwable. My 2006 Wrangler requires no drilling or modification. The tire carrier sticks out about 5 inches more than the OEM, which is great if you run 14-inch wide tires, but it was more than I would like. There are almost 4 inches between my 31x9.50 spare tire and the tailgate. I had to get an extension for my hitch receiver so the latch on the trailer tongue wouldn't hit the replacement part when attaching it. However, the design is superb and easy to install.

Still rattles a bit

The Rugged Ridge Spartacus hinge system is very strong, well made and holds my 33 x 12.5 x 15 perfectly, but still rattles a bit. I thought it might be hardware, but after switching to heavier bolts, the tailgate still rattles off the spare tire. Overall I'm happy with the Spartacus hinges, but for the steep price I wouldn't expect the boot lid to not rattle at all. The smoothness of the tailgate movement is amazing. I could probably open it with one finger and it holds the tailgate open muchโ€ฆ
